Wow! This has to be one of the largest school bookstores that I have seen. Kind of overwhelming. And expensive.

I purchased a gift card last semester and the process went smoothly and successful. This semester, however, I did not even sign a bursar's agreement after my gift card purchase, which I thought isn't even according to policy. I was helped by gentlemen that wasn't sure how do help me so then he asked Aimee Lowery to help. Completely unprofessional and rude person to work with. She was talking about me WHILE I was still nearby saying how "it was an inconvenience" and I "insisted" to ask for RECEIPT of my purchase. I still did not receive a receipt of my $750 purchase and she just said she couldn't help.I was fine waiting for everyone to figure out how to help me, but Aimee Lowery "Customer Service & Loss Prevention Coordinator" was not helpful and completely rude. I overheard her complaining about other customer besides me and that as well was unprofessional. Terrible experience.

Was looking for a cool souvenir to sport when I get back to SF... fail. The bookstore itself is huge but clothing sizes for women... nonexistent. They had UA and Nike items but most of them were all large and it was sad... I really liked their color: really bright red. For all you design geeks: think Pantone 485. They had some cool tshirts but they all had pink... (sigh...) Maybe next time they'll have size small and items that don't have pink in them... wishful thinking I know...

Sooooo expensive, as other students have noted. And that's not just whiny college student talk - bags and backpacks for $80, $100?? $27 for a reusable water bottle?? Who would spend that kind of money on stuff you can get at Target or Walmart or even Goodwill?! I'd like a Lobo sweatshirt, but I'd also like to eat for the rest of the month! As with any college bookstore, books are brand-new and therefore RIDICULOUSLY priced. I decided to rent a book for what I thought was going to be $25. I threw a bit of a tantrum when I got a bill for $50. Turns out THAT book they switched to a new edition only (we are using the old edition in my class) and so without telling me they rented me a brand-new book for twice the price. The bookstore gets more than 1 star though, because the manager took my complaint and dealt with it. I was being a pain in the ass, but she just rolled with it and even offered to help me out with OTHER new student issues. So nice it ALMOST makes me want to buy an overpriced Lobo license plate holder.... (it doesn't)Cons: credit only, no debit so have your ID or you stood in line for no reason VERY tight schedule to return rental books - if you miss the deadline you get $0 and can even have to pay THEM the remainder of the price of the book. Yuck. Lines can be long the first week Prices (on EVERYTHING)Pros: On-the-ball bookstore manager who has to deal with everybody's bullshit but STILL has good customer service Apple store & UNM IT "Brain Bar" located inside coffee shop inside, Co-op store next door they sell tape dispensers shaped like sea otters & sidewalk chalk (but oddly no blackboard chalk, which would ACTUALLY be handy)

I'm a UNM faculty member who ordered an Apple MacBook Pro through the UNM Bookstore. I mistakenly opened the shrink wrap before noticing I'd made an error by ordering the wrong color laptop. UNM Bookstore would not refund, exchange, or offer store credit for the laptop, stating that the box had been opened. If you're a UNM faculty member, staff member, or student, I recommend purchasing your Apple products from Apple, rather than the UNM Bookstore. Apple will honor reasonable return requests. UNM Bookstore will not.If you must purchase your Apple products from the UNM Bookstore, make sure you know exactly what you want to get and that your behavior perfectly complies with rigid policy. Based on my unfortunate experience, UNM Bookstore allows no room for human error, even for a faculty member who has given many years of service to the University.

I think it's bs you charge a 10 dollar fee for a student not picking up a book that they placed on hold that you didn't have in the first place. Especially when the book store had my wrong email address. Like the students, arent charged enough tuition already or like your books aren't expensive enough. So thanks. I gave you two stars because your staff is nice.

The UNM Bookstore looks nice but behind it all is pure GREED.Everything is OVERPRICED and designed to RIP OFF the students that need those books for classes. If possible buy them online (or anywhere else) but UNM makes that hard to do when your professors lie and say that you need the newest version of the text book that is somehow updated every semester or year. (But when you compare older versions of the books to the new ones literally nothing changes). Or you get a**hole professors that expect you to have those materials ready on day 1 of class when they don't even send out a syllabus or an email saying so. And UNM makes special deals with book companies to only make a "UNM edition" book that is only sold at the UNM bookstore and no where else for certain courses.Or they screw you in a different way where they say you're forced to buy a certain version that's only sold at UNM Bookstore because it comes with a special code required for your course.Be prepared to throw away thousands of dollars on books when you go to UNM.Also they started a "renting" plan which is designed to rip off students. Where you'll be charged "fines" for damaging their property even though most of those books are used and already damaged. They also will buy back your books and hardly give you anything in return for them. Sadly I saw so many students doing that and getting ripped off. For a book that cost you over $200 you'll be making probably $20 in return or less. Then next semester comes and they're selling it to other students for almost FULL PRICE (same price as a "new" textbook). Then the cycle continues making UNM even more rich yet they constantly raise tuition because somehow they're "struggling."So that's another problem "Used" books at the UNM bookstore are literally almost the same price as a "New" book. When I first started going to UNM I felt as if the prices for used books were actually good and had a huge discount compared to the new ones. It was easily several hundred dollars cheaper but over the years they got greedier and jacked those prices way up literally almost to the same price as the regular new book costs.Another problem is the "loose leaf books" are extremely expensive as well. They're charging almost full price as if it's a regular "hardback" text book which doesn't even make any sense. And those offer no refunds once taken out of the plastic cover. They also have a terrible refund policy where you can only return books back within the 1st week of the semester starting and then after that they will never accept a refund/return. (Also make sure not to lose your receipt). Previously it used to be several weeks long (either 2 or 3) then they shortened it to one week to screw over students even more. And some professors won't even use the books during the 1st week of class because they'll be covering syllabus material or lecturing. And in some classes it will turn out that you bought books for nothing because the professor doesn't even use them when they told you to buy them in the first place. Another thing if it says it's RECOMMENDED on your syllabus that means you don't need it. But professors use vague wording to trick you into buying useless books. Some courses can be passed just by going over the "LECTURE NOTES" while the book isn't even used. This happens multiple times in various classes for biology, sociology, and etc. And in multiple high level Spanish courses they will tell you to buy a bunch of novels and in the end your professor doesn't even go over them or the majority. They make you waste hundreds of dollars on books that aren't even needed/used.For some books/class materials you'll be forced to get them at the UNM Bookstore but for most it's possible to find them elsewhere. If you can I highly suggest you buy them on amazon or another online store, look for a free pdf version, buy the "ebook" which is normally cheaper like on amazon kindle, or you can even find it for free with a simple google search. Also some courses require an online homework site that comes with a free ebook version already (wileyplus). The other downside of the UNM Bookstore is when you enter you'll have some employee or even cops there looking down upon you as if you're a shoplifter. That's the only time the UNM police actually "work" because they're extremely lazy and let people get robbed all the time on campus. They only protect UNM's "goods" not yours. They'll even follow you around if they don't like the way you look. It's very unpleasant to experience that especially when you're a student that's just going to buy class material. Also if you need to buy spiral notebooks and other types of school supplies buy it at Walmart or somewhere else. Here they charge double/triple.Bottom line is UNM price gouges and only wants money and doesn't care about your education.I do not recommend the UNM Bookstore to anyone unless it's you're only option available. If possible avoid it like the plague.
