I'm glad I dont have a long wait

For such an enormous hospital complex, one's destination is usually relatively easy to find here. Someone believes in signs. Now, if they could just figure out how to cut down on wait time. Staff has been friendly and professional and kept me informed. Since my 'problem" requires help today, but is not as urgent as some others, I will be patient. I'm just happy they are here when we need them. Yeah! UNMH Urgent Care!

I took my mother here because she had a headache and was feeling pretty bad when we were on the way to the airport. She was seen pretty quickly and taken to the ER due to high blood pressure. The fact that the clinic is located at the hospital was very helpful! I thought the care she received was good.

Here now, composing review as I go. I got here at 4 and already it's been an hour and a half here. They are busy so I can't give them much crap. The entry nurse was quick and got me on the waiting list. They have face covers by the entry desk for those-like me-who are coughing up a lung in real-time. Processed me and sat me back in the lobby. Waited another 20 minutes and called back sitting in the room waiting (as pictured). Nothing in the room appears or feels tacky or dirty to the touch. Doctor just came in, very professional, discussed what he thought. Forgot his name already. Lol. About to be taken for a chest x-ray and for a throat swab. So now waiting again (5:51pm). 6pm nurse came in for throat swab. Used the light for selfies, hen6:04pm being taken for chest x-ray. Now waiting in a new area of UNM Lomas. 6:16pm done with x rays. Back in room six.

The staff in general was good but he NP Mara or whatever her name is was super rude. She told me she couldn't help me no matter what and passed the buck for me to go somewhere else. When I told her I had no access to cars or money to pay she told me that the clinics she told me about were low cost and when I told her I didn't have transportation she told me that there is busses and this is inconsiderate of her because I can't walk at all. I have 3 forms or Arthritis. To me this is unacceptable behavior in a medical professional. But I have noticed this is usual trend for NP and PA's at this hospital.

No one wants to go to an urgent care, but sometimes life happens. The waiting room isn't huge but there is an overflow area if needed. Overall, all the medical personnel were nice, professional, and moved the wait along. Saying that, there are going to obviously be days and times that are more busy than others. If you must go on a Monday, try to get there before 10 am. Also, the hospital mails you a questionnaire about your experience so that you can recommend any helpful changes they can make.

I called ahead to make sure that they would refill an emergency prescription for a controlled substance that I lost, they told me that. When I arrived there, despite the potential of going into withdrawal from not taking this medication, they would not help me at all, even with a short day supply. they told me to go to the emergency room where I would have a $6000 bill and had a terrible attitude and were very mean to me the whole time. Do not go here.

My husband had been suffering a gout flare up since late Friday. Finally Sunday morning he can't tolerate the pain anymore and he agrees to let me take him to an urgent care clinic since it's a holiday weekend and nothing will be open for another two days. This was affiliated with his other healthcare so would access to his medical records. I called ahead explained the issue and was told to come on in there wasn't much of a wait. We went in and he was seen quickly but did not really receive care. He was seen by a doctor. And then told the doctor could not treat him and he would need to follow up with his primary care provider. The doctor was told we couldn't get him an appointment for two weeks. For awareness gout is common but it is extremely painful. There are multiple ways to treat it. You can target the excess uric acid with something like allopurinol or colchicine. You can target the inflammatory process with steroids. Usually by the time a gout flare up is occurring it's too late for NSAIDs to do much. That's more on the preventive side of the house or very early on. We were way past that. The doctor prescribed Tylenol. Which is NOT standard of care. If you don't trust me checkout the Mayo Clinic article on it. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/gout/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20372903So basically this was the doctor's demonstration of incompetence. If your looking for care I would not go here. Not if you actually want help instead of wasting your time. My husband now has another two days to be in extreme pain before he can try again to get seen by one of his regular healthcare providers. Maybe UNM Adult Urgent Care Clinic should send their doctors back to school to learn how to treat patients. Our experience definitely did not demonstrate that on this visit.

I arrived first thing in the morning with a warm swollen red foot. Interviewed by an RN who was really together, I was passed to a "Physician's Assistant" for "diagnosis and treatment". She did not address or suggest testing for either of what I later learned are the worrisome possibilities of these symptoms. Kind of shrugged and said there was nothing they could do, suggested an x-ray which she admitted was silly, and prescribed an Ace bandage. I would expect better "urgent care" at a lean-to in Albania. I am looking now for an actual medical professional.

UNM Hospital's Adult Urgent Care is the worst place to be provided health care in New Mexico. I would not recommend UNM Hospital's Adult Urgent Care to any one. The providers, at all levels, openly display disregard for any issue the patient describes with an annoyed expression and attitude along with indifferent responses that minimize the patient's complaint. Upon my visit, a physical exam was not performed; please note the obvious need for a physical exam as I was complaining of lower extremity joint pain.I was not provided explanation of my diagnosis or related symptoms, nor was I given anything to relieve my pain. I had to beg the Nurse for a referral to a specialist and was only given the referral after becoming emotional. Further, I was refused a copy of my radiographs - this is against the law. I was given uneducated discharge instructions including a recommendation to avoid weight bearing without being provided any form of ambulatory support such as a crutch or cane. I was also advised to proceed with normal activity despite the reason for my visit being that I was unable to proceed with my daily activities due to the severity of my pain. In conclusion, UNM Hospital's Urgent Care should be called UNM Hospital's Urgent Neglect.
