It was kind of comical how ornery the middle aged cashier was when I asked him a question about a book. He started trying to make me feel stupid like he was some sort of genius who worked as a cashier at a souvenir book store. I was there with my grandma so I played it cool but after we left she mentioned how nasty he was acting. So odd as I rarely meet people who are so needlessly irritable, certainly not in retail.

We came to this store on a Saturday night and were greeted by two nice guys. They were helpful but not overbearing. The selection of books were all by New Mexican authors and there was a lot of books to choose from. We ended up getting a children's book by an author of a a book I read growing up, "Bless me Ultima." It would have been nice to see more children's books here but there was still a solid selection. I also purchased a couple of postcards here. They also have magnets and a few other NM-centric items. I wish I would have asked more questions about some of the books I saw based on the reviews but I'm glad they are such a nice resource for the community and that they know so much about these books!

I will never set foot in there again, the entitled owner was incredibly rude. When I asked about one of the books in the window about the history of Albuquerque, he says, "Well that's the wrong terminology.' Like WTF, a book is a book. When he grabbed a book from the shelf and I told him that wasn't the book from the window, his reply was well then you're out of luck. As I was leaving I told him he didn't need to be so rude, he told me I was rude for not answering him when he said, "hello". Now I'm slightly hard of hearing and if he did say that I did not hear it. Now I know the customer isn't always right but if you get that quickly bent out of shape when I customer does not respond to your hello you might want to consider getting out of retail.

Walking past the shop I saw a book that I wanted to buy. So a quick turn around and into the shop we go. We were the only customers in the store and began to ask a question of the owner. He was extremely rude and rather than answer our question he said "if you don't like it, I don't want you here" REALLY???? So out the door we went. We'll find the book elsewhere. No wonder his shop was empty. So much for shopping local at this place. Don't even bother to stop here, the attitude says it all.

We stumbled over the Treasure House on a stroll through Old Town. It's true, the selection are almost all local authors, many books autographed. And Authors often have live sessions at the shop to discuss their book and the back story that inspired it. This store is best savored like a good glass of wine, Plan on time with Jim, the proprietor - who is a Korean War veteran with many stories to tell of that war and New Mexico history relating to that war and Japanese internment of WW II. Music selections are also unique and local. A heartwarming and unforgettable experience.

Small but excellent bookstore. Books about and from South western authors. Got three books by women authors - signed !! For $30. Owner is 91 years young and is wonderful! Knew about authors and books. Was a pleasure to speak with him. Took his recommendations! . Will be back and will be taking my guests there!

It would be most accurate if Yelp would allow me to give this place 0 stars as, despite two attempts, I have yet to get inside.Having read about Treasure House at the Atlas Obscura site and looking for local books to add to our research library, my wife and I were eager to visit this bookstore in Albuquerque's Oldtown, ready to load up and possibly ship books home. Yelp said (and says) it is open every day from 10am to 6pm and is the only site I could find online with store hours. We arrived on a Friday night just a few minutes after 6pm to find it locked up tight. There were no store hours posted anywhere on the door or windows. Oh, well, my fault, I thought, although it seemed strange to close so early in a tourist district. Two days later we busted our asses to get there before closing. We arrived at 5:35pm to find it locked up tight again. Seeing a light on, my wife knocked on the window. A very old gentleman came out and engaged us in conversation, clearly confused about why we were there and that we weren't looking for a particular book, but wanted to browse. When we asked when they're usual closing time was, he would say that they were closing early to go to a birthday. Eventually, another, younger man came out and brusquely said "We close every night at 5:30!" and went back inside, leaving us with the older man.No explanation. No apology for the confusion. It doesn't matter that we now know that they close at 5:30pm as we won't be going back. Yelp should correct its info.

This is honestly one of the best bookstores in Albuquerque, especially if you're looking for works on regional history and culture. Right next to Old Town plaza and in a historic building, this is a must-stop for anyone interested in the literary Southwest.

This is a great little book shop right on the Old Town Square, devoted to Albuquerque and New Mexico topics. The real treasure at Treasure House is Jim, who spent quite a bit of time with us, telling us about the history of Albuquerque, about Tony Hillerman, about Hillerman's daughter, who just released a new book continuing the story of some of Hillerman's characters, and about other local authors. He recommended several authors to us and we bought a number of books to expand our knowledge of Albuquerque, of New Mexico, and of the Southwest.
