I got the fantastic opportunity to spend a couple days in Santa Fe New Mexico, and got to meet extended family over lunch at Tomasita's. Now, I've heard that New Mexico is really big on their Chile Peppers, that the peppers are so ingrained in their culture that they are practically inescapable, and the city of Santa Fe, with it's adobe structures adorned with large groups of chiles hanging everywhere. So, it would be wrong of me, when in New Mexico, to not do what the New Mexicans do. I mean, how well can I really immerse myself in southwestern culture if I don't try the most prominent part of their cuisine. Now, you might notice a huge void in my reviews of spicy foods. This is because I do have some blood pressure issues, and spicy foods definitely increase that issue. But again, I felt that I needed to try this, just to get the full experience. We arrived at the restaurant about 2 pm on a Sunday, and the place was packed to the gills. The crew was professional and had us seated in no time, with drinks in our hands in the blink of an eye, and appetizers of chips, salsa and sopapilla bread.I browsed the menu, and I was recommended the Chile Relleno, to which I queried about the spice level, and was told that the green chile was much less intense than the red chile. This was my first lesson in New Mexico chile peppers. I told the waiter that I would go with the Green Chile Relleno, and enjoyed the appetizers. The blue corn chips were absolutely fantastic, with a bolder flavor, and a different texture than I was used to. But travel is really about trying new things, right? The drinks and appetizers were constantly brought and kept full, I was very impressed with how awesome their crew truly was, a well oiled machine! The kitchen crew must have been equally as amazing, as they had our food out to us in just a few minutes. I must confess that it isn't just the blood pressure when it comes to spicy food, that I am a bit of a wimp as well. So when they told me the green chile was less spicy, I bought that hook, line, and sinker. It was still pretty darn spicy, enough to make me sweat a bit. This was the second lesson about chiles, but not the last. The final lesson came soon after that, that the closer you get to the stem, the spicier the chile gets, and for some reason, I chose to start at the stem side, and yeah, much spicier than I was expecting. I won't allow the level of spice to influence my review in any way, because like I said, I'm a wimp, and that wouldn't be fair or unbiased. The Chile Relleno had a very good flavor, it was bold, and definitely unlike anything I'd ever eaten. The side of refried beans with it was pretty good too, some of the best I've ever had. The entire meal and experience was just a complete and total joy! One day I'll return to Santa Fe, and it will be my pleasure to take my wife here. I'm looking forward to the day that will happen!

The best bite of my trip to Santa Fe. It was a super cold night and this place was still super packed and had a line of people waiting. If people are bearing the cold, it has to be good. The service took a second and our appetizer was forgotten (in which our server was super apologetic for) but that didn't hurt our experience much bc the dinner entrees were yummy. Everything came out hot and delicious. With your meals they also give out this warm delicious sopapillas with honey butter and honey. When I saw top tier I mean it. I fell in love with them. Highly recommend if in Santa Fe.

Worth the wait!I understand why this place is so busy at dinner time. Excellent food and excellent service. The staff is great. I like to mention our server April who was on point. The manager, Rodrick certainly knows how to ensure that the customers are happy. The ambience was fantastic, and the food was great.

Another must go to for us when we visit Santa Fe. Another first come first served place where you might need to wait for a table. We got there early on a Tuesday night having just arrived from the Balloon Festival in Albuquerque. Our standard meal is to get a beef burrito (or enchilada) with red and green chili (Christmas). This year my wife ordered the corn chowder with blue corn chips, a special that evening. Food is always good and reasonably priced. Our favorite part of the meal are the sopaipillas. They are light and airy pillows of fried pastry made sweet with the honey we fill them with liberally. A classic.

Tomasita's is just one of those "go too" places in Santa Fe. Touristy? Maybe... I am a Native New Mexican and when in Santa Fe there is nothing like this familiar staple. After all, this place is celebrating 50 years! That says it all for me. We ordered a margarita which was served in the commemorative "50" glass. They are delicious. Not overly sweet which is how I prefer them. We ordered guacamole and chips as an appetizer. It is fresh and chunky served with tortilla chips. I ordered the liter side chili relleno. The relleno is smothered in green chili with pinto beans on the side. The chili has just the right amount of heat and really compliments the relleno. For dessert, they bring out pillowy sopapillas with honey butter. This is a nice ending to the entire meal. Tourist or Native, this is a great restaurant! The service is always exceptional, the food is worth the wait you might had for a table!

This place was recommended to me by a friend 8 years ago and she told me that it was the best food in Santa Fe. She wasn't wrong at all. I had eaten here at least 5 times since then. This past week we ended up having dinner at Tomasita's 2 times in four days and I would go back tomorrow. Food is fantastic! Service is great and the environment is amazing. If you go with a group there is a little bit of a wait, but it's absolutely worth it.Their sopaipillas are feather-like and they melt in your mouth. House margaritas are delicious and they serve the best blue corn enchiladas.A must have while you're visiting Santa Fe.

Was looking for good Mexican food we found it at Tomasita's. Started with chips and queso. Queso was very flavorful and the chips were crisp. I got a chicken burrito with cheese sauce on it. It was chunks of white meat throughout. Also very tasty. my husband got the Chalupa's on two crispy corn tortillas with refried beans, cheese and chicken. Also came with avocado, sour cream and red sauce. The service was very good, even though the restaurant was totally packed. You must get there early to avoid the crowds. The restaurant was decorated with Mexican decor and very clean and well kept.

Worth the wait! We came on Christmas Eve and our wait was 75 minutes, but we stayed and so glad we did! They use a waitlist website, so you get to track what your place in line is, and you do get updates. Everything we tried was amazing - from the sopapillas, to the very STRONG margaritas, to the flautas and tacos. Authentic Mexican flavors in a fun, busy environment.

We came during lunch and were seated within 15 minutes indoors. It's a beautiful restaurant that is adorned with artwork and photos of the staff, which adds to the warm and open atmosphere. As a group of 4, we decided a share a few plates. What stood out to me were the bold flavors of the green chile that complimented each dish. I appreciated the addition of the sopaipilla with the honey butter that cooled down our palettes and offered a nice sweet treat. I didn't find the bowl of chile to be spicy, but this depends on your tolerance level. The flautas were nice, crisp and filled with chicken that was delicious with the toppings of salsa and sour cream. Overall, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu here! Would definitely come here again.
