The people that I ran into there were nice staff. They didn't give me a hard time about anything. We rented chairs and it was an awesome concert. Good time!

I am a huge fan of electronic dance music, so I had to get tickets when I saw that San Holo would be throwing a show here. The venue is not the nicest and it's one of the smaller places I've gone to for a concert, but I still had a good time. There was lots of security that checked wristbands and kicked out belligerent people, but the overall vibe was good. It was worth paying extra for the mezzanine level because the bar line was much shorter than the one downstairs. There's also bathrooms located nearby, but there was no soap or toilet paper, ugh. Try to arrive early so you can get a good spot on the lower section of the mezzanine because I couldn't see anything on the higher section.

Thanks El Rey Theatre for hosting Yelptropolis!! I had the privilege to enter the venue early thanks to Yelp Elite and got to enjoy the array of vendors from Slapfish to Pokopoki to Green Growler Smoothies to Vessel IV Bar to Safe House and many more!!I found ample parking on streets and a paid parking lot right across the street for easy access to the venue. The upstairs is a nice balcony with tall tables & chairs as well as another bar. There's an outside patio area with a small stage area and booth seating. Perfect place for an intimate show I'd love to come back for a good night out. I would've never found this place if it wasn't for an event like this.

This small downtown venue is great event location. They do a good job of managing shows in the venue and trying to keep it up. The biggest challenge depending on the day of the week it can be difficult to find parking.

I won tickets to Marshall Tucker and I was excited to go. I haven't been to the El Rey in many years and I heard it has gone downhill. Nothing could be further from the truth. I emailed the venue to see if they made special accommodations for my physical limitations and they were so kind to work with me. We were let in to the show early and given a table with chairs right behind the sound board. Does the venue look a little rough from the many decades of shows there? Sure, but who cares. Was the sound perfect? nope. But the staff was amazing and everyone was having a great time. I had to use the restroom, which I typically dread at shows. To my surprise, the stalls were clean and well stocked with tp. There were plenty of paper towels available too. All in all I am pleased. I will totally be back to see another show!!

Neat place an a great smaller venue for live music. It's been a while but the last time we went the acoustics were quite good. It is historic afterall - sorry about the photos - they're from around 2011. If you're visiting, make sure you walk down the street to the Kimo.

I find it incredibly unprofessional that your website lists certain prohibited items and bag policies that were different at the door. I attend a lot of EDM events and own clear bags, however a clear bag policy was not listed on your website. Because of this I chose a bag that was not clear and was turned away at the door. The security guard said "we've been trying to roll this out since the beginning of January" that makes it especially upsetting that it's been 3 months and the website was not updated, nor did social media posts say anything about the policy. Do better.

Been here for 4 shows now. All of them barely even enjoyable because the sound is so unbelievably awful. I wish good bands would stop coming here. Twice as loud as needed and just so muffled

The venue was fine. I mean, it is a Lil old and that is fine. Was scary when people started jumping on the upper level. My first time there and didn't know the stools were for VIP only, and one of the men that works there was a jerk about it and promptly pulled it out from under me while I was trying to get off. I am short and had to jump a little to get off and fell forward because of him taking it away so promptly. That was really rude and it hurt my knee.So be a little nicer next time, dude. That's really the only issue I had. The rest of it was fine!

Went to see Drive By Truckers and wereexcited to see live music (the concert was postponed from 2020!). But the fun was taken away by the terrible sound. We sat in the balcony and when the Truckers sang, you couldn't hear anything. You could see their lips move but literally nada. On a few quieter songs (not too many of those) you could make out a faint noise that might have been a voice. Don't know if this is the fault of the El Rey sound system, or how the Truckers decided they wanted it mixed, but whatever--it was awful. We thought it might get fixed but after a half hour of frustration we left.
