Ambiance of the place was super cool. The service was friendly but pretty slow. Took our waitress a while to check in on us and take out order, but maybe they were just short staffed tonight. Food overall was ok. Ordered chips and they came out cold. Ordered meatloaf and the red sauce was pretty good but again it was lukewarm. I would come back for drinks but will probably skip ordering food next time and sit at the bar for faster service.

OVERALLThe Gorge Bar & Grill was a good choice for burgers, ribs, and other American fare and really good cocktails in a Taos, New Mexico plaza.RATING BREAKDOWNFood: 4 | Service: 5 | Ambiance: 4 | Price: 3 PARKINGMetered coins-only parking in a plaza.LOCATION/AMBIANCEClose to Hotel La Fonda in downtown Taos, this restaurant offers comfortable indoor dining and has a fabulous outdoor patio overlooking the plaza. On March 20, 2024, it was a bit more upscale than my cowboy was used to, but he quickly got over that once the drinks were served. The bar is great! Classic rock music playing low. Flat screens with pre-season baseball on. The women's restroom could use some work, but was clean.THE GRUB+ Smoky Paloma ($11) - it's made with mezcal. Recommend!+ Crown Royal & Coke ($8.50)+ Crab cakes ($12.95) - these were a different approach than what we were used to. It was 2 crab cakes with tomatillo salsa & chipotle aioli. They were okay.+ Beer-battered fish sandwich ($13.95) - it kept falling apart because they sliced my fish in two, but otherwise it was tasty with flaky white fish.+ BBQ ribs ($21.95) - my lunch date thoroughly enjoyed them along with the sweet potato fries which were delish. LITTLE YELPER'S CLUBKid's menu is available.SERVICEAll staff members were friendly and efficient.MY FAVORITE PART...The strong drinks.NOT SO FAVORITE PART...The prices.

Stopped in for a late lunch/early dinner and cocktails after exploring Taos Plaza. Check out their cocktail menu, they have some awesome craft cocktails... we did a Green Chile drink, and a Pineapple/Jalapeño drink... actually we did two each! Chips/Salsa/Guacamole were tasty. My friend enjoyed her pasta and my burger was decent. Friendly service in a nice open and airy vibe.

After a day slow rolling the High Road to Taos, the family was hankering for a warm meal. Considering the proximity to the holidays, it seems the gorge bar and Grill was one of the only places in town open, and the word was out... When we arrived, there was more than a one hour wait. But as my dad says in Vegas, "we're not here for a haircut," so we teased ourselves by reading the menu a few times, and hung out at the top of the stairs waiting for our turn. As a party of nine, it was actually pretty cool they could get us in at all. The fellow running the front end was very nice, honest, but compassionate about our long wait. He came out a few times to give us an update on other peoples meals, so we could gauge our anticipation. When they finally called her name, we all sort of let out a collective celebratory cheer, and hurried to our high table, surrounded by stools. Our server was nothing short of awesome; she kept our drinks filled, including those of several kids in our party who fished those drinks down to the bottom quickly. As for the food, I was pleasantly surprised by not only the quality and flavor, but the size of the portions for tourist prices. Even then, it was not astronomical. Everybody had a really nice time, and though we were there after their official closing time, they did not run us out, and we did not camp. The next time we are in Taos, I will definitely give this place a shot again. My son ordered a burrito that gave me mad FOMO, so I suppose we'll have to return soon.

The restaurant was clean and decorated like the environment and culture it surrounded. The waiter was nice and knowledgeable. He was very kind. The food was full of flavor. I had the Fried chicken sandwich with chipotle and green chili aioli. Very Good. Too much food to finish. Highly recommend.

We dropped in here on a Saturday night just as they were closing, and they were kind enough to take us in.I had crab cakes and they were pretty good considering that the nearest crab is over 700 miles away.Ask for a table outside overlooking the Taos Plaza--I'm giving them one additional star for that ambiance.

Stopped in just before a cloudburst. We had to wait for a table while staff ran around reseating the outdoor patrons escaping the deluge. Food was good, not exceptional and the service was decently attentive. Had a few cocktails that hit the spot. This is a reasonable place to visit for a quick tasty bite or drink but for me it just didn't stand out. There's a bit of competition in Taos so while I'd come back it wouldn't necessarily be my first choice.

We took a chance despite reading reviews saying service was slow. Unfortunately, the other reviews were right. Food was also underwhelming with much of the items not being made in-house. Would not return.
