Maaike Hurst's mission: to hire and support victims of domestic violence. Just women. Sorry, not sorry, she says. I'll get to the soaps and the rest in a minute, I just feel like I need to add something to the conversation. Hurst has been around the block, including a long stint in Washington state where she worked as a financial advisor. She'll tell you, if you ask, about some of the women she connected to, desperate to escape domestic abuse, but unable to speak or act due to threat of financial ruin. In this era of #MeToo, it's important to recognize that, for many women, probably the majority of the victimized, the risk of coming forward is far, far too real. The threat of poverty, particularly in the poorest state of the union, is literally life or death.So that's where she's hoping to make a difference, and her soaps and body products are the salve. As it happens, her products are terrific; she's all about softening, soothing, giving your body that buttah, baby. One or two drops of her body butter had my hands rejoicing all day. Delightful bath bombs. Terrific local art from, yeah, a pretty powerful woman. All in a space about the size of a big walk-in closet, hand-crafted and easy to warm up to, much like Maaike herself. The very first time I spoke with this woman I enjoyed her, and you'll enjoy spending a little more for better products that support a critical cause.

We found this little gem on Yelp and couldn't help, sorry about the rhyme, but check it out. More specially, it was the super awesome Fight Club style soap that caught our attention. We were out last Saturday and made a point to pop in after lunch to see what treasures we might find. We were so glad we did. This beautiful little store smells like heaven, think walking into the solarium at the Botanical Gardens or the scent of sage after a long summer rain. Yup, it smells that good. Maaike Is the owner and creative mastermind behind the soaps, lotions and bath bombs. She also allows local artisans to display their wares in her homey little store as well. She uses all natural ingredients, focusing on how to support healthy and hydrated skin in our dry desert heat. Overall, this is a lovely location we are certain to frequent on a regular basis!

I am always looking for good handmade gifts to purchase. Sunshine Alchemists & Soaps has an impressive variety of soaps and oils. I have been following them on social media for some time and finally made a purchase at a farmers market in Los Ranchos. If you're not able to reach their Fourth Street store, they do their rounds at other outdoor markets on the weekends. So far, I've been pleased with the soaps I purchased, all different scents and all very soothing on my desert dry skin. Support them, they're local!

We live in Tucson but have been ordering soaps from Maaike since we found her at an ABQ farmers market three years ago. They're just our favorite anywhere. We especially love all the Northern New Mexico inspired scents. The fragrances are not too strong or artificial, and the texture is perfectly creamy. But most important: the shampooch is the absolute best dog soap we've ever used, and everyone we give it to or who smells our dogs agrees. Every time my brother uses it, he texts to tell me he can't stop sniffing his dog. He also says it's the best gift I've ever given him, which is funny because it's probably the most affordable gift I've ever given him. But, hey, that's good soap!

Wonderful masks and shampoo bars. order online and arrange to pick up curbside. Just learned they have shampoo bars for your dog too and a bar that kills skunk spray too.

I love these products, especially the soaps. I bought many for Christmas presents this year. They are sitting on my kitchen island waiting to be wrapped, and they smell lovely! Fantastic experience. Purchased some soap, masks, and dog shampoo bars and all items came quickly, were exactly as advertised, and with a little extra gift thrown in. Great local business run by nice folks, good products made from real ingredients that smell amazing, couldn't recommend them more.

My first order but definitely not my last. During this time where we are washing our hands more frequently I needed a product that worked. My friend offered me the body butter (Lavender Sugar) OMG!!! even after a couple of hand washes I did not have to reapply. I picked up my order that also included the charcoal detox bar that he swears by. I also bought the bar sampler and I can't wait to try. I was pleasantly surprised to find a sample of body butter (Essaouira Express) smells "delicious" and was also gifted a tea light candle (Moon) smells like "Summer".
