We had the Albuquerque Turkey sandwich. It was very tasty, and served nice & warm. Great cheese on it, too. The fries were better than most places. Even if you don't have it with your meal, be sure to get a Boylan soft drink.

Not Your Ordinary Museum Food....Can museum food be really good? You betcha. In Albuquerque, there is a museum/cultural centers that serve examples of the best New Mexican food in the area: the Pueblo Harvest Cafe in the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center. The Pueblo Harvest Cafe also serves the best Native American food in the Duke City. Washington DC has the Mitsitam Cafe, located in the National Museum of the American Indian on the Mall, and it serves outstanding Native food from all of the Americas. The Slate Cafe At the Museum needn't take a back seat to any of these. Good company to be among. This is a small (7 - 8 tables, banco, and short counter) that is quite beautifully and colorfully decorated. Quiet, with excellent service. We tried:*Creamy Green Chile Chicken Soup: chicken, green chile, celery, topped with tortilla strips. This soup is among the best of its variety to be found in the Duke City. Smooth and creamy texture, loaded with large-dice chicken breast, and subtly laced with finely diced roasted green chiles (no seeds!), The blend works beautifully, the piquancy is just right, and the appearance is lovely to behold. I would go to this museum cafe just for a bowl of this gem.*The Portobello/Caprese Salad is outstanding.Proprietor Myra Ghattas, owner of Slate Street Cafe, has recently opened Slate at the Museum. Everything is made from scratch, with many high quality ingredients from local farmers and producers. Dine at the cafe or take your food to go. Freshly made salads, sandwiches and other items are available for takeout. All pastries are homemade, including the array of famous Slate Street Cafe gourmet cupcakes. The quality of the food is in keeping with that of the exhibits in this little gem of a museum.

The chicken quinoa salad was delicious, and the chicken was moist and warm. It was also a huge portion, so come hungry or take it in a to-go box. I tasted the Albuquerque Turkey sandwich and the green chile chicken soup as well and everything was wonderful. My refreshing hibiscus iced tea was also a delight. I had forgotten to ask if it was sweet or unsweet when ordering, and thankfully discovered upon first sip that it was unsweet. I would definitely come back here again, even if I wasn't visiting the museum that day.

Wow. This place was surprisingly delicious! Listen to the other reviews: This is no average museum cafe. The food is hot, fresh, and just as good as a restaurant's. I didn't get to try their fries... but oh do they look out of this world! Super thin, crispy, and hot. I got their Albuquerque Turkey and a side salad and it was one of the best sandwiches everrrr. The sandwich had gooey melty cheese and roasted, slightly spicy, green chiles. We had a party of 15 and the workers were so accommodating and kind. Will definitely stop by again if I find myself in Albuquerque.

Not your average museum cafe by a long shot. I would actually go out of my way to eat here the food was so good. And the service was great, too. You order at the counter and it is brought to you (so remember to include a tip when you pay by credit card or as you leave your table - the server deserves it!). We split an Albuquerque turkey sandwich and ham and brie sandwich. The ham and brie sandwich was one of the best sandwiches we have ever had, and it came with a nice side salad. The turkey was tasty, with a kick, and came with better than average shoe string fries. Husband was not a huge fan of the turkey sandwich, though. Wish we were hungry for dessert since they all looked great and freshly baked. Would come back if in town!

We attended a wine event at the museum, but arrived a little early. As attendees, we were provided with $5 coupons for the cafe, so we wandered over to see what they had. The cafe is just as you walk into the museum, before you pay to enter, next to the gallery store. Very nice setup with wood chairs and tables, lots of wood everywhere - very aesthetically pleasing. Warm and comforting all around. The counter is clean and attractive, and the people are friendly and helpful. There is a full menu, (including a coffee bar) but for the evening of the event they had a special tapas-like menu. I ordered fried artichoke hearts and we both got coffee drinks. The coffee was very good - high marks. We sat with some folks from the meetup group we were attending with and chatted for a while and waited for the food. They were eating the ceviche and chicken skewer items, and both gave rave reviews. Another friend joined them and purchased a beet salad and a greek salad - these are regular items in the cafe, which were available because they are in the cold case. She also raved about them and shared with her friends, who loved the food as well. When my artichoke hearts were delivered, frankly, I was not expecting much - they're just fried veggies in dough. But they were unbelievably good. They had flavor and tang and spice and zest and they were amazing. The artichokes themselves were huge and the batter they were in was delicious. They came with a citrus aioli sauce - normally I would never use a sauce like that, but it was delectable! Went perfectly with the artichokes. As I said, we didn't try the regular menu other than the two cold items from the case, but based on the quality of the food, I would HIGHLY recommend this cafe. Based on our experience here we are going to visit the Slate Street Cafe as soon as we can manage to schedule it. Absolutely fantastic!

Where to start? The atmosphere was welcoming, the staff was attentive & the food was...... delicious! Who would have thought a nice stroll in the most informative & well displayed museum would have led to an appetite? Well, it did & the green chili chicken soup was awesome! The tuna melt was just as yummy & the grilled cheese was yummy! Very reasonably priced & I can't wait to be back. Thank you Slate at the Museum for a one spot stop for a beautiful Saturday afternoon.
