We were skeptical when we saw the sign for Santa Fe Vineyards. We weren't exactly sure what kind of wine this part of the country could produce. I can happily report that we were pleasantly surprised. As I understand it, the actually vineyards are south of Santa Fe but, we stopped by the tasting room and split a tasting (about $7, if memory serves). We tried a delightful Chardonnay which was light a crisp. Next was a red that had a little spice to it, not surprising considering the area. Finally, we had a Zinfandel Port which was really impressive. The tasting room itself is not much to mention. Its functional and offers the usual books and spouts and aprons you might find in another tasting room. The bathrooms look like they were lifted from a Getty station. The man offering the tastings was pleasant and knowledgeable. If you like wine and are in the area. See what's offered away from the West Coast. You might be pleased as we were.
