The School of Cooking focuses on providing interesting and exceptional New Mexican cuisine cooking classes. Over the holidays, we took a traditional Christmas cooking class, featuring pork and vegetarian tamales, chili sauces, biscochitos. The chef instructor, Mica was great-capable, interesting and articulate. She started with a short tutorial on the history, importance and value of corn in Native American diets. Then she provided an expert talk on the significance of chilis in Southwestern foods. There was a compare and contrast of different chilis -- dried and fresh -- green and red -- hot and mild. Most informative. These two talks were well worth the price of admission alone. Chef Mica had funny jokes, interesting, relevant stories and demonstrated with ease how to prepare a traditional meal of tamales with fresh masa. The whole class was in awe of her skill, articulate explanations, ability to provide short, but pertinent answers to each and every question asked. This class was a demonstration (not hands on) and once it was concluded everyone in the class was served the meal. Delicious. ...and it appeared to be so easy. I'm going to find out when I try my own tamales at home. Nicole, the small business, family run owner, talked to the group about all the school had to offer. I found the inside shop especially appealing, with dozens of Southwestern cookbooks and cooking items you won't find anywhere else. This was a well spent morning and will become a must visit next time we are visiting Santa Fe. Bravo Chef!

I cannot recommend Nicole and her team highly enough, whether for a class or for a large group buyout for a customized class like we did last month. From start to finish, it was a pleasure and a breeze to work with Nicole. And from start to finish, the class itself was a pleasure and a joy to be involved with. Not only was the instruction during the class top notch and the tips - even for our veteran home cooks - outstanding, but the quality of the meals we made were excellent. We all agreed that we would make any of the items again at home. Nicole also made some great recommendations for food products from the shop for our group, and they were big hits. She is knowledgeable and her instincts are spot on. I highly recommend the Santa Fe School of Cooking.

I almost forgot to mention this-Santa Fe cooking school has a WONDERFUL gift shop. They have foods, ingredients and supplies unique to New Mexico. We have been enjoying our tea from them (Desert Mountain) as well as our black clay cooking dish. We are enjoying their wisdom and goods in the PNW!

What a great experience! Mary and the rest of the staff were just exceptional. We took the soup class with our group of 4 and several other groups. Got there at 10 and were out around 12:30/1. The other groups were so friendly and it was fun getting to hear where everyone was from and getting to cook together. The food itself was phenomenal, and learning the best way to roast and prep the peppers is something that will stay with me for the rest of my life. We will be returning for another class the next time we come this way.

first time at Santa Fe school of cooking. Got a lot of good information about ingredients and cooking techniques. However, I was not a fan of the style of the class. Everybody just sort of mingled around not knowing where they were going or what they were doing and it just seemed a little disorganized to me. I would rather be assigned a task and do it. other than that, no wipes at all. I will say, though I've taken many many cooking classes. All the ones I've been to include a glass of wine once you get to eating. This did not. For what we paid, it seems a little nickel and dime.

I took my husband and adult daughter to a demonstration class. We aren't from the area. First we were greeted so pleasantly and had a little time to shop. Great local selections. Then taken back to the demo area. The seating was comfortable and we could see everything the chef was doing. The chef we had was so full of local information beyond the cooking. We learned so much about the area. The cooking was easy to figure out and duplicate once we got home. We really enjoyed our time there and the service was absolutely fantastic. I'd highly recommend this and would do it again.

Having taken classes since the School was located upstairs on the Plaza, I always learn something new with each session. With two classes in the last two weeks, this continues to be the case. The staff is knowledgeable and the table service is worthy of a five star restaurant. For the price, you receive techniques, recipes and a meal that inspires you to try something new.

Superb and so much fun to experience. Love their curriculum and want to try to take another class when I'm back in Santa Fe. The Georgia O'Keefe class sparked my interest in her and her work. The Georgia O'Keefe museum and a trip/tour of Ghost Ranch followed. I'm now very intrigued in her life and her work. The cooking class, with the cookbook author who cooked with Ms. O'Keefe, and the class instructor gave us an intimate glance into her daily life. The highlight of my trip.
