After a few years of Sandia Peak being closed down, it is back open for business. I recommend getting tickets online as the first day was a bit slow at the window. Runs were beautiful, snow was great, not too crowded, and a ton of fun to be had by all. TIP: Make sure you have chains for your tires, as it is being enforced/required. There was a bad head on collision that caused a 3 hour wait in getting down the mountain. Drive slow on the turns and let downhill traffic pass you first! We crawled at less than 5 mph down the turns in my AWD subie but many cars.were not so lucky. We watched a lot of vehicles slip and slide especially trucks. Make sure you weigh down the rear end of your truck. Bring water, snacks, a flashlight, and a sleeping bag. Always come up on a full tank of gas too. You never know how long it might take.

First time coming here! I've been snowboarding about 5 times and I love it but I'm still learning. I've visited sipapu and Santa Fe but not Sandia yet until now. First, I thought the price of lift tickets were not bad compared to the others. I paid $65 for Santa Fe and $55 for sipapu but $45 for Sandia. Rentals were also at a great price (first come first serve basis). Although my board was shorter than I wanted, I still had a great time! All the lifts were open and I really liked the slopes here. The trails I went down, had some great slopes. Some were steep but a lot of it was great for practicing toe and heel edge. The bunny hill was alright because it was too icy for me since the snow melted. I wish there was more powder but ABQ weather. It did get a little more powdery as you got further up the mountain. Another thing I wasn't to keen on was how the main lift took so long to go up compared to some other places but I understand it's probably for safety reasons. I just took the time to enjoy the snowy scenery. I'll be coming here more often since it's closer to home than the other two and it's a little cheaper but snowboarding is just awesome in general!

I highly recommend Sandia Peak Ski area for ski lessons! I'm 44 years old and have never donned a pair of skis in my life but after 2 lessons I mastered the bunny hill with confidence. The instructors are safe, patient and very knowledgeable! Also, the ski area is doing a great job with COVid safe practices and keeping everything clean and safe. My son just started snowboarding there and we are falling in love with this mountain! Thank you again!

Worst experience ever. If I could give ZERO stars I would. We called two days ago to see if how the skiing stuff worked in regards to classes for kids and adults. We were told to be here by 9am to get our gear and be ready for the 10 AM class. Got here at 9:20, 10 AM classes are filled, no big deal. So we all signed up for the 1PM class. Now we are told, at 12:40 that there IS NOT A SKI INSTRUCTOR for the 1PM kid ski class. Asked about the snowboard lesson...nope, there isn't a snow board instructor for kids. WTH. Why sell something when you do not have the instructors for it???? Best they can do, is refund us our money even though we have been here for almost 4 hours. It's almost an hour drive one way and that's from the place we are lodge at...we do not even live here. Fuming! We bought gear (not expensive or anything) but got specific things especially for this trip and to spend money on something and time, it just boggles my mind that a company could and would do something like this. Our daughter, who was excited and is 4 years old, was excellent throughout this whole process...much better than I am. Buyer beware should be in big bold letters.

Wish I could give negative stars.Got there at 10 on Monday. No instructors for the kids in the afternoon. They had also ran out of skis. Got there at 8 on Tuesday. Signed up for Never Ever Lessons - two adults and one child. Classes started at 10. Children in a separate class. No problem. 12 people in the class of complete and total beginners with 1 instructor. Absolutely no individual instruction other than her watching and telling you what you did wrong. This class cost $90 each and not one time did she show someone what they were doing wrong and how to do it correctly. I fell a couple of times, the last time hard enough that the other students were asking me if I was ok while she just looked at me and said that i needed to take off my skis in order to get up. Wrenched my back bad enough that i didnt continue the lessons after lunch. My (adult) son did. He never did learn how to stop but that didnt prevent her from taking him to the top of the hill (small hill but tall enough to get some speed going) and have him try to ski down it. He, of course, fell and rolled half way down - his skis never popped free, he was lucky he wasn't hurt other than bruises. Cost $270 (plus some cold weather gear) for all of us, not one of us learned enough to be able to ski the bunny slopes. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!

Skiing at Sandia Peak was a great experience. It was great as newbies. We had a couple of ski lessons and one snowboarding lesson. Adults and kids. The school was great. We did have problems the second day with not enough instructors and the 3rd string was brought in which did not have much experience. When the lack of progress was reported to Grant the coordinator of the school, he stepped in and rounded up some more instructors to help and the kids were on the slopes in no time. Rentals - fast, efficient and well organized.the slopes - only the greens for us and they were great! We will definitely return. The value was great!

This ski area has a lot of great runs for beginning/intermediate skiers and snowboarders. The blues are on the easier side and there aren't a lot of black runs but the few they have are really short. The lifts are slow and lines can get unruly, but once you make it to the top you can take a long run down to the bottom or ski halfway down and take another lift back up.Parking is lacking and unorganized. We ended parking on the road past the actual ski area and were excited that they had a "shuttle" (trailer on back of a pick up truck) to take us to the ticket booth. I was really disappoint though at the end of the day when this shuttle wouldn't take us past the second lot and we had to walk up the side of the skinny road back to our car. Some excuse was muttered as we got off that they can't go that far after a certain time...The coolest thing is that you can pay a little extra on a lift ticket (I heard 10$) and you take can take the tram up to the top of the mountain from town and back when you're done instead of having to drive around the mountain. Pretty sweet deal if you ask me. We had an abnormal experience (I hope) considering trees fell on power lines and at first 2 of the 4 lifts were down. Later power went out from the other two and they had to close completely. When there were just two lifts running some employee was attempting to organize the line of people waiting to get on lift 1 by rudely yelling at everyone. Yelling that we were supposed to be no more than six wide and that he didn't know what we were doing. When someone commented to him that they should extend the ropes that divided the crowd into lines that they had at the front, he snapped that there was no more rope so we just have to figure it out. Also, most ski areas will have single rider lines to make chairs full and running efficiently, but anytime a single rider go to the front they had to stand to the side and call out for other single riders - they should've made a line for that but as I wasn't alone I didn't care too much. We got stuck on the lift with the second outage, but ski patrol was really nice. After it started up a while later they said we could have free hot chocolate for sticking it out, but unfortunately the power was out at the base too. However, we were freezing and asked the woman working the ski shop if we could get hand warmers instead since there was no power, and she went out of her way to make sure we got them which I & my frozen fingers really REALLY appreciated. Long story short- it's fine for something close to town but there is nothing that's fantastic about it. Not the most organized place but just to get a couple runs in it was fine.

My family has never been to a ski resort. We paid for the snowboarding lessons and they were great. Most places are only 1 or 2 hours but this was 4 hours for less than most 1 hour lessons. For $80 we had the 4 hour lesson, all day lift tickets and snowboard and boot rental. The instructors were great with the kids and they had a safety program to make sure the right people picked up the right kids!! We started out with my sons current tennis shoe size and we had to go up in size 3 or 4 different times. The boot attendant was helping my son get them on and never lost his patience. The cafeteria was very reasonable. The place was not very crowded which was great for beginners. I'm glad we chose this place!

I saw in the paper that it had 37 runs open today. It's Thursday and I'm just visiting for a few days and was hoping to go snowboarding. I went to rent a board and I was thoroughly disappointed when they informed me that Sandia ski resort was only open on the weekend. Maybe you shouldn't advertise that you have runs open when the entire place is closed. Very upset about this and can't wait to bring my business to Santa Fe area who actually advertise correctly. Sincerely, unsatisfied customer.P.s Fuck you

terrible skiing place. we drive out from texas to ski for a week and only got to ski once. we arrived at the ski place at 9 am for four days and waited in a ridiculous line just for them to run of equipment. we were able to get refunds but we had already wasted three hours waiting in lines. the website gives no information AT ALL and the place closes at 4:30. we waited for an hour in a line just to turn in our waivers just to be told by the worker that if we were doing ski lessons that we had to sign up for ski lessons first before waiting in that line. there was no information about this what so ever and it was ridiculous.
