In the area already and looking for a late lunch. Note that this place is called "Restaurant El Salvadoreño" on Google. You can find it by the giant sign reading "PUPUSASERIA" out front. We walked in and started reading the menu and chatting with the man at the counter. He helped us pick out *five* vegetarian pupusas. Pretty good start! We ordered the calabacitas and cheese, the green chile and cheese, the loroco and cheese, the spinach and cheese, and the bean. Then the guy was surprised we wanted to eat there - guess you only order at the counter for to-go. We also inquired about the aguas frescas, and upon being assured that they were not that sweet, ordered a tamarindo and a melon. We grabbed a small table under the TV playing cumbia and other Salvadoran music videos. There were several other folks in the place so we got to look at some of the other offerings, including huge bowls of menudo and possibly even huger tortas. Our pupusas came fairly quickly for pupusas (some places will advise you that they can take 15-20 minutes) and came with two sides: a bowl of a very thin but flavorful salsa, and a mound of red cabbage slaw that reminded me just a bit of a pickled situation. Two of us were able to eat the 5 together, although 4 would have probably been enough. But now we've tried them all. The green chile and cheese was my favorite; the calabacitas was also good. The bean would be better with cheese; I might try to eat it with a cheesy one in the future. Also, the aguas frescas were aMAzing. Definitely the best ones that I have had in Albuquerque, and possibly the best outside of Mexico. Just a delight! The only knock on this place is that they close at 6pm every day, so if you want them for dinner you'll have to get takeout the last hour they are open. They do have several breakfast-y options though, so maybe the next time we visit (and I definitely want to go back!) we'll make it a brunch thing.

The mariscada was AMAZING. Soooo much flavor and full of shrimp, fish, squid, crab, mussels and snails. The leche con banana was really refreshing. There was a language barrier with the waitress but fortunately my friend speaks Spanish so all of my questions prior to ordering were answered. No ticket is given and you go up to register/counter to pay. I had a bite of my friends pupusa and it was really good but my soup definitely stole the show.

Being raised with both salvadoreñan parents I grew up with popusas as an infant. Hence I have an excellent appetite to distinguish popusas that authentic. This ones were dry and seemed to have more maseca flour than actual stuffing. Hardly any loroco on the popusas. The salsa is very bland and no flavor to it. The curtido did not came close to the authentic curtido that is well known in El Salvador! I have yet to find a restaurant kn town that serves authentic popusas like the ones I have had kn my visits to El Salvador. The place overall is clean and neat. The indoor and outdoor of the building depict salvadoreñan vibes. Service is slow for both being served and for getting check out. Our waitress only checked on us once through the service.

A must visit for pupusas and other Central American fare down in the South Valley. Important note, they are cash only according to their signage. The menu prices have gone up over the years but they are still very reasonable. We were able to have a perfect amount of food for two people with $25 cash including a tip. We ordered the plantain plate and four pupusas, all of which were fantastic. We tried four different filling and my favorite was the one that contained beans cheese and chicharrones but the beef one also had great flavor. They were all great and the plantains came with beans and crema which all paired together perfectly. The menu has some English descriptions but prepare to atleast attempt some Spanish when ordering.

The Yelp menu is so out of date. It was almost 10 years old, prices are obviously much higher now, but the food is excellent and always very friendly service.

Homely and modest little restaurant with colorful murals inside. Looks small from the outside but has plenty of seating and an outdoor patio. Wide variety of pupusas, tamales and other dishes. Yummy food and lovely service from the nice ladies. Aqua Frescas (pineapple, tamarind, melon, etc). Also some larger plate combo specials. Bilingual menu.
