Quiet. Wild. Magnificent. Bring sunscreen, hat, walking pole and water. It will capture you. I didn't want to leave, but explore each new bend.

Perfect for scrambling and hiking through the rocks. It's beautiful, a little gem. just 10 minutes from the car park and then we walked along the dry river bed and climbed up for photos ops. Just a few people around, a beautiful sunny day in December - perfect. To get there go through the Dar Al Islam wood archway, no permit needed to cross.

If your into rock formations, photography, and/or painting - this is a great (quiet) spot. Lots of shadow and light subjects - perfect for b/w photography. Not a huge place - allot about 90 minutes to explore... Dirt access road not too bad.

This is a gorgeous hidden gem north of Abiquiu, next to the Dar Al Islam mosque and education center who owns it. With stunning rock formations (think Lord of the Rings) the views will take your breath away. The walk from the parking lot is only 1/4 mile on a dirt and rock path. The road to this place is a bit of a challenge so make sure it hasn't been raining too much - the road could easily flood. You don't need an appointment with the mosque to go to the site but it's closed to visitors on weekends. Check the website for detailed directions to the place as it does not appear on google maps and it's a bit of an adventure.

If you like rock formations, you will love this off the beaten path wonder. Do not follow your GPS once you turn onto County Road 155 or you will go up a steep dirt road that you can overlook the Plaza Blanca. Just stay on 155 until you see a wood archway that says Dar Al Islam. It is a dirt road , stay to right at fork. Now, get out of your car, walk about 1/4 mile to this wonderous place.
