This place is a hoot!

It's a scary looking place on the outside. The first time I swung by they were closed even though their hours, and sign, said they were open. The second time I went they were open, but I was informed that for whatever reason they don't carry Canadian Club. It's was a decently stocked little store, and Canadian Club is pretty standard stuff so I'm not sure what the deal is here, but I cried a little on the inside when I heard the news. I resolved to keep a stiff upper lip though, and dug my miserly little hands deeper into my wallet for some Bushmills.

If you read the rest of my reviews in this series, you might get the impression that I think Santa Fe WOULD be cool, except it sucks because of the hippie tourists that infest it.With all due respect, I feel like Owl Liquors was the social nexus of the "real" Santa Fe. We were going to get a 6-pack to enjoy in our motel room, and there seemed to be the most genuine local people at this liquor store compared to ANYWHERE else in the town. Nice, friendly staff. Enjoyed the security camera photos of the shoplifters, as Sam A. mentioned. Someone recommended me a 6pack of Santa Fe Brewery Pale Ale which I'm actually enjoying as I'm writing this.

Pricey, and not the greatest selection. They sell crack pipe rose stems with a display that says, "Show her you love her" next to the brillo... Hilarious. The best thing about this liquor store is the fact that they post pictures of all their caught shoplifters on their counter... So you get educated about the local color at the same time as you're buying your bottle of Thunderbird.note that due to NM laws, they don't open on Sundays until 12:00 Noon, and there's usually a really long line on that day for about an hour.

One of my two favorite liquor stores in Santa Fe. I respect their casual attitude toward age discrimination, although they get busted for it on occasion. They have a pretty decent selection though. I've even seen Vya vermouth there.

This is the best liquor store in town... and perhaps the state. The vintage owl sign is amazing. They also have a great selection of liquor and the staff is very friendly.

I went in to Owls today... usually I am greeted and welcomed by the Nice gentlemen that are there 90% of the time. (I wish I knew their names) I dont mean to sound racist because I'm far from it, but there was an Indian man working cash register today and he is very rude and far from friendly, due to this man Owls has lost a regular customer. I'm sorry to the men that are there regularly cuz I try to tip them every time I am there but if you want to remain a good business find help as good as the usual workers you have.
