I really wish they did more than just orthopedic surgery here. Seriously. This place has outpatient surgery down to a science. You check in, they take you back and get you hooked up to everything, your family comes to hang out, the anesthesia doc comes to talk to you, you meet the OR nurses, your doctor comes to have a chat, and then you're off for surgery. After surgery, the nurses in the recovery room will have a plethora of drink options and crackers for you to have a snack while you beat off the effects of anesthesia. They'll bring your family back to sit with you, and help you get dressed. Everyone here is super duper nice, and very helpful. They even call you the day after surgery to see how you're doing, and you'll get a card signed by all of the staff a few days after as well. Not necessary, but definitely a nice touch.

These guys have it down! To start off I am a recovery room nurse at a local hospital. I work closely with pre-op & surgical services, I see a confusing & disjointed flow from both the patient & employee perspective. But at NM Surgery Center, I didn't get that feeling. My pre surgery contact was nothing less than professional. I received calls and texts reminding me of appts. Preop screening was done over the phone -saving me a trip. Billing called the day before to remind me to bring: insurance cards, ID, etc & what my copay On the day of surgery the registration office was in the same room - no trekking all over the hospital looking for offices. Once I signed in I received a text when registration was ready for me, the nurse text me that she would be out shortly etc. My wife & I were brought back to the preop area and prepped quickly allowing each provider plenty of uninterrupted time to talk with me. Each step in the process was fully explained so there would be no surprises. My wife was able to follow my progress via text . The recovery room stay was quick - within an hour of coming out of surgery I was in the car and on my way home. Everyone I came into contact with was professional, knowledgeable and enjoyed their job. As a surprise I received a get well card in the mail. It was signed by the surgeon, nurses & the anesthetist involved in my care. Truly a professional experience. If you w to are having a day surgery and this place is an option you'd be foolish to go elsewhere. The other hospitals in Albuquerque could learn something here.

I had outpatient knee surgery here and it was a fantastic experience! I especially appreciated the post-op care. Someone was with me to make sure I was comfortable and they helped me wake up completely prior to leaving. I felt cared for and certain of what was going on with me and the surgery. I have been in other Albuquerque hospitals for surgery and I am always grateful for quality healthcare, I am especially appreciative of the care I received at NM Surgery Center Orthopaedics. Thank you!

I cannot say enough amazing things about this group. I broke my leg. Had surgery. Insurance was fairly easy to navigate. Dr. Chapman was phenomenal. He really listened to me and what I wanted. Their office process is seem less. In my many visits I never waited past my appointment time and everyone was very friendly and accommodating. My only issue was getting physical therapy once I was ready. There were a few PT folks that I could go to on my side of town but they didn't take BCBS. I thought that was odd because they are my preferred network. I ended up doing PT at my work's clinic. All was well. High recommended!

I came in for surgery and at first the staff was nice at check-in until I got to the back. The nursing staff was horrible. After they placed the IVs in me I started getting a burning sensation my hands cramped and my feet cramped so bad that you couldn't pry them open my toes were curled back and I started crying I almost threw up. I said Mom I don't know if I can do this and they go we don't have to do this is an eletive surgery if you don't want to you can go home, it wouldn't be like this if you would just stop and calm down big bresths. Then the doctor came in and says what's going on she goes oh I didn't see her hands clamped! Yes she did cuz I showed her several times saying it hurt! Dr Patton tells her something and so they gave me a shot and it finally went away. Afterwards they I had a knot where the IV was the size of a golf ball and no one called me in pain meds so they cut need open and sent me on my way! It was the worst experience I've had. I was scared to have it done anyway and they made it worse and unlike any other surgery I've ever had it was horrible!

Dr Averna uses the facilities here to conduct epidurals. The procedure I received this time is called a caudal epidural and would seem quite painful. It's a 3.5 inch needle through the sacrum and into the spine. Well, it went really well. Everyone in the facility was kind and very understanding. I didn't wait more than 10-15 minutes at any stage. The paperwork took the longest at 15 minutes. I was in and out in 45 minutes. And Dr Averna from NM Orthopedics is very good.

If you are on Medicare, do not go to this provider for any pre-operative workup. They do not code their pre-op orders to show how the test was medically necessary and so Medicare will not pay for the tests. That leaves you on the hook for the cost of the tests even if your medical condition would have shown that the tests were necessary. Their failure to do the necessary coding leaves you having to pay for the tests out of pocket.

My experience was mixed. The good part of my visit included great communication via texts in preparation for my mid foot double fusion and Achilles' tendon lengthening surgery. On arriving I was met with good organized checking in process. Pre surgery care was kind, caring, excellent. Even providing a warm blanket for my sister who was my care helper for my recovery. My main issue was my after surgery recovery room care. My surgery went longer than expected 3 hours. Needless to say I was very groggy in recovery and I am prone to nausea from anesthesia. Unfortunately that kicked in too. The fact I was throwing up and barely awake didn't seem to matter and was told I had another 10 minutes and had to be out of my recovery room. I live on the Westside of Albuquerque and was literally at home less than 45 minutes after I entered my recovery room. I literally left the Surgery Center half awake and throwing up in a bag. Strongly felt I definitely needed a minimum of at the very least another 20 to 30 minutes to recover more before leaving, not the 20 to 25 minutes I was given. Up until that point I was quite impressed with the center. Recovery entirely too rushed .
