What a month-long saga. Medication was prescribed but denied by my insurance, it took the clinic 3 weeks to file a prior auth for this and that was only with my insistence. To date, med has been denied 2+ times and I am without anything to control my pain. UNM Provider refuses to provide alternative medication in that time, will not call me back, and I cannot send a message through the portal because it is not working. This clinic was recommended highly but has provided the same garbage care as the rest. Be aware that your insurance company may not cover this clinic at all due to it being physically located in a hospital. The "location code" will supercede the billing code and insurance (mine is BCBS) will say that they do not cover services performed in a hospital.

if I could I leave no stars and a review I would. I have been with this place and undergone gone surgery with them and I have been on the phone for the last week trying to a get follow up they failed to schedule for me. I paid hundreds of dollars for this procedure because the person who was supposed to verify me wasn't available and I needed it now that I need a follow up apparently the old doctor doesn't work there anymore and instead of caring about me as a patient that's paid and been treated while I am in severe pain and have begged for assistance they have instead hung up, transfer around and still without an appt. Sandy particularly acted unprofessional and I just don't understand how they can work for a pain center and not be willing to recognize and assist previous patients in pain.

Poor customer service and patient care. Hard to reach provider and staff doesn't seem knowledgeable or well organized. Getting prescriptions filled is a challenge as they don't do automatic refills even when it's a non narcotic. Would not recommend.

Edit:I'm editing this review because I missed my appointment ( I take full responsibility for it). I was use to the last clinic to send reminders through text messaging ( big mistake on my part). I called the clinic and the rude girl ( yes girl) up front told me to go to the ER to get meds until they can get me in a week later. I decided not to go around and around with her. I was diagnosed with Pneumonia that same week so I was pretty miserable. I drove over and spoke to Adam the COO. He informed me the same thing. I had the week from hell. I went through withdrawals, could breathe, coughing to the point I couldn't sleep. I think that this was just bordering CRUEL. So I came in to pick up my medical records and to say Goodbye to Amanda today. The girl up front was still rude. I do not recommend this place. Yes, I'm one person but, many clinics have gone broke my mistreating one patient. It snowballs

Would not prescribe meds I've been on for decades, I've been living w fibromyalgia and chronic pain, I know what works for my body. They are nice in there but won't respect your own self awareness

NM pain clinic is managed in El Paso. Communicating. Between the El Paso office and Albuquerque could happen faster if someone walked the message the 300 miles. Staff is rude. Messages left for me are not consistent. One says okay for meds the next says ee know nothing. Prescription s, submitted 9/4 was returned to them because it wasn't filled out correctly. A5 days later nothing has been corrected and now I am completely out of medications. There is no excuse for lousy service. If staff hates people they should flip burgers. Impression I've gotten over the last year is they don't care about patients and their ElPaso call center is one of the worst call centers I've dealt with. It's sad that Medicare pays for substandard care. Due to nature of business in a pain center you'd think they would communicate caring not disgust with their patients. Lower your expectations if you're dealing with NM Pain center. Unfortunately good doctors are supported by rude unprofessional clerks who demonstrate time after zime that they don't care.

Late sixties , chronic pain , disabled , on the same meds for 28 years . Got to this doc from the er and this man took my meds away. Who does that . Tiny maintenance dose and he said no knowing full well I didn't have a new arthritis doc and I can't get around . It's insensitive and a bit control freak.

My experience with the New Mexico Pain Center in Rio Rancho was somewhat bazaar and disturbing. I have had chronic hip pain for several years. A couple of months ago I got a flyer in the mail about the pain center. I have been looking for help with my hip problems, and they seemed like a good option to explore. My involvement with them started with their online questionnaire. It was mostly questions about drug abuse, alcohol abuse, depression, and suicide. That seemed... curious. When I went in for my initial evaluation, I tried to tell them that I am a happy person who is extremely health and fitness conscious. I am a vegetarian and quite careful about what I put into my body. I am an avid cyclist who rides 24-27 miles every day. I am a devout Buddhist, and because I am retired, I am able to meditate two to three hours a day. And I am actually quite leery of drugs and alcohol, not only because they are contraindicated for meditators (!), I am also overly-sensitive to them. They seemed wholly uninterested in what I had to say. When I was there, they asked for a urine sample. I didn't think much of it at the time, but a few days later I started getting "lab results." No one had told me what testing they were going to do or why. I assumed it had to do with my hip pain. It turns out they were screening me for drug and alcohol abuse. They were treating me as if I were a drug addict or an alcoholic at a rehabilitation clinic. Instead of taking an interest in what kind of person I am and treating me accordingly, they just assumed the worst and then went about trying to prove it.Sometimes--perhaps most times--you get from people what you expect from them. If you expect the worst, that is what you will get from them. Some years ago I knew someone who said that in life, you need people you can work with. You need people who will be your partners in solving life's problems. The people at the New Mexico Pain Center clearly are not that. I have terminated my relationship with them, and I will be seeking help for my hip problems elsewhere.

This place is weird in a horrible way. First time I go there, they secretly drug tested me and found coke in my system but even though they found that they prescribed me Pain meds stronger than Oxy like these tiny strips,60 of them, The cocaine they 'found' shouldn't have stopped them continuing to treat me, because they got me addicted to opiates. So then after they fire me as a patient I was left unsafe and sick. I believe I was 17 years old and I had just experimented with cocaine a little bit. But oh let's prescribe him buphenehrine It's fine. Fuckers

Obviously the other reviews on here are addicts that are mad that they can't get their fix. I've had the pleasure of visiting Dr. Bergsten, Dr. Watkins and Dr. Rumbaugh for severe muscle trigger points and they've tended to me with interventional therapy that's been a life saver. All of this without the need or use of opiates and pain pills. There's an epidemic and these fine doctors are helping people pain without overprescribing deadly drugs!
