A nice theatre to host performances (like the Nutcracker Ballet in the Land of Enchantment) and one of the nicer backstage areas I've been in. It's too bad about the flooding in other parts of the building. I'd like to come back (when not performing) to see more of the art and exhibits. Parking is ample, but I wish there were more dining options in the area. As it's name implies, its culture is everything. 2022 #59

I like this National Hispanic Cultural Center. We were able to host some events using the facilities here and there were plenty of space + parking spots. I wish I have more time to explore other areas within the center (but perhaps we were there on weekends, maybe we did miss out on something at the center). Otherwise, I thought the place was spacious and clean. The only thing was just that the entrance/driveway into the center was a bit confusing. It seems some people could just decide to block off drive way entering into the center without really posting the direction one can take go still get to the center.

I love NHCC for concerts the venue is intimate enough and comfortable. The sound quality is great ! I enjoy the blue lighting and wonder what other saturation of colors on the backdrop they can add. The best part is not having to deal with overwhelming crowds

Had a wonderful day with mum. We looked at genealogy records at the National Hispanic Cultural Center. Then we went to the Winter Spanish Market. I saw some lovely Spanish art work for gifts. Found a new piece to add to the collection. It is Saint Cecilia, the patron saint of musicians. Plus she is painted in a guitar. It was done by an artist from Las Vegas NM. Matgarito Mondragon. He is the one that carved the statue in the Las Vegas plaza called, "Our Lady in the Park. So neat to talk to him about his art. Also we saw a boy from Socorro, Joshua Rivera who won best in show. Check it out tomorrow if you can.12/2. Checked out the Bless Me Ultima exhibit. Free to nm residents on Sunday!!! What a bargain!

Que Chola is the newest exhibit at the NHCC. This particular exhibit will run through August 4th. I enjoyed walking through the many artist exhibits learning about homegirls & cholas. Their personas in pop culture cam be intimidating yet showing the strength of women can be empowering.Another exhibit currently open is The Art of Adam & Eve. This was interesting too. There are many things to do and at at the hispanic cultural center. While you are there you can stop by PopFizz for a Paleta or carne asada fries!!

My wife and I went to check out the Chola exhibit and it was LEGIT! It's nice to see this kind of art get showcased. "GANGSTA" is what it was. I'm not some kind of intellectual connoisseur of the finer arts, but that's not to say that you intellectual connoisseurs couldn't appreciate this kind of exhibit. A different kind of beauty, but easy to appreciate. Check it out.

I learned about the Qué Chola exhibition and knew I had to see it...and see it I did! I was born in Belen, NM and grew up in the 50's and 60's around the beginning of the end of the Pachuquismo movement. I know and sometimes use many of the dichos and idiomas that were prevalent back then and still used today in many circles. So, con o sin su permiso (with or without your permission) I am going to throw in a few key words and phrases to lend flavor to this review in the hope that your interest will be piqued enough to go check out Qué Chola.Ahorale vatos, here we go. The art was amazing and they were able to capture the essence of Cholas perfectly with total respect. I am Latino...Nuevo Mexicano... so I, therefore, have been carnales (brother/sister/related..."bro") with all people of Latin decent for generations. Qué Chola captured the essence of a portion of the movement for cultural identity perfectly...sometimes with humor and other times with dead seriousness. I feel the art and photographs lends credence to the identity of most Latinos who acknowledge and proudly allows our culture to manifest itself in everything from clothing, hairstyles, language and low-riders. I found myself sitting next to a young Latina as we watched Lauren Poole in her fantastic Youtube renditions of Shit Burqueños Say part I and II. I began to talk the talk (In Spanish and English) and I at least made her smile to aver her/our cultural identity. This is Art, folks and you don't have to be Latino to appreciate it. Who doesn't like Aqua Net hairspray and big hair? There is everything from 3 dimensional art to drawings, paintings and photographs to titillate your senses. Price of admission is $5 or less depending on if you're a NM resident or an old vato like me. Andale...get over to the National Hispanic Cultural Center and enjoy the exhibit!

Used to be one of my favorite performance venues but is slipping. At an opera performance last week the mezzanine wings were in total darkness, even when the house lights were on. Had to use my cell phone flashlight to find my seat. Parking accessibility is a chronic problem with a one-block walk from the handicapped lot to the door, and last week this was worsened because the east gate to the complex was closed. I'd like to see the NHCC upgrade its maintenance and get serious about handicapped parking.
