Mustang Diner

I love a bare bones small town diner, but I at least want the food to be decent. I ordered the Mustang Burger and it was bland and overcooked; the fries tasted like they'd been picked up from McDonald's and left out to cool for a couple hours. Plus side was the server was very kind and it's definitely a good spot for people watching.

I entered hungry and annoyed. Hangry from wandering around outside not knowing where to order. Signage suggests ordering at a pick up window. No one was there so I just went inside.Once settled, a delightful waitress took my order for Rellanos, with "Christmas" sauces (Both Red and Green).I've always thought Rellanos were fried peppers stuffed with cheese, or meat. Mustang Cafe does not stuff their version, but instead simply coats the chilies with a very heavy batter before deep frying. Also, both were covered with only Red sauce, but this was a very minor error.The interior is functional. Owner clearly wants to cater to the working rancher clients. Fancy Schmancy need not apply.Frankly, even had I liked the Rellanos, the place would never be better than OK, and that's probably OK with them.

Decent lunch spot. Service was friendly. There is not much competition for grabbing a lunch in Mountainair. Ambiance is a run down diner type of place, but if your looking to grab a couple of sandwiches and some onion rings I wouldn't hesitate to stop here.

We came in for a late lunch on a cold, windy day. Everything we ordered hit the spot and we came away very satisfied. If you're visiting the Salinas Pueblo Monument or Mountainair, I recommend stopping in for a burger here. Their onion rings are perfect! Staff is friendly and accommodating, too. Keep up the great work--it's not easy being in business these days, especially in small towns.

I always had a pretty good experience at the mustang I'm a pretty basic person so I just get the burger but it never disappoints there fries are pretty good to! I rate my overall experience 9/10

The food was spectacular. I had a combination plate that was perfect. It was so good I had to stop myself from eating more after I was already full. The service didn't seem very good...at first...but when we were waited on it was excellent. The waiter was exceedingly pleasant and appropriately attentive. The ambiance isn't much to speak about. It was just a few tables setup with minimal decorations. The food and the service overcame any deficiencies in ambiance. I went back 2 more times during my stay and was never disappointed.

Overtly Racist establishment. Never offered us a seat or even talk to us today at about 2:30 pm. So this disabled USMC veteran, my 85 year old Japanese Mother-in-Law and my wife, finally took a seat, after standing in the doorway for a while. We were blatantly ignored by both the male waiter and the young lady who came out of the back to look at us and then returned to the back of the restaurant. Eventually, we gave up on getting served, after one table took care of their check and left and one of other three occupied tables were apparently getting their check, and left. They never said a word to us while we were there. Clearly a racist establishment that I as a local Deer Canyon Preserve property owner am totally ashamed of!

Amazing food. locally owned and support other small businesses! Amazing family behind the business!

We stopped at the Mustang Diner while driving through Mountainair, based on the positive reviews on Yelp. Glad we did! Super tasty food, reasonable prices, and great service. Mostly New Mexican fare and burgers. (They also have ice cream, milkshakes, and Boba tea but we were too full to try these out.)Everything cooked to order, served hot and fresh! Don't miss this gem.
