What a great find! This little musical theater features well-known musicals with great local talent. Tickets prices are extremely reasonable and, due to the size of the theater, every single seat is perfect. This is a clean facility (restrooms and all) and they make good use of the small space. Seating is comfortable, which is not always the case in small theaters. If you are a fan of musicals, give them a shot. You won't be disappointed!

My expectations were pretty low after googling the location, but I saw Newsies here last night, and I was so impressed! That particular show is EXCELLENT and I highly recommend it!The theater of course has new shows constantly, but they are clearly of much higher quality than I expected - I thought I was in for some real cringe-worthy amateur theater. The venue is small and intimate, but it works. The orchestra is excellent. There are very limited snacks available for purchase. Small parking lot, but lots of street parking available.Definitely check out this venue and consider supporting the arts by becoming one of the Musical Theatre Southwest Amigos who do everything from ushering to set painting.

This is the first time in a while I've attended one of the productions of this company. I remember when I would go to their shows at popejoy. They have always put on great performances and this last one was no exception. The only issue I had was I had waited in line to go in and they were pulling people from the back of the line to enter another door. These people had just arrived.

This was the first time I attended a performance at the Musical Theatre Southwest (MTS). I went to see Avenue Q and it was a great performance. This is a small theater but do not let that fools you. The performers and the stage were considered a high quality. It gives the audience the intimate feeling with the performers. Also the place is well ventilated. One thing that I like is the donation to non-profit organizations that each performance will be contributing to. The audience are informed which organizations will receive the donation at the beginning of the show. They also have already secured performance for 2017 - great job! There is a small glass case to purchase small snacks and cookies from Rude Boy Cookies, which is albuquerque-owned cookie store close to UNM.As for the parking, other reviewers has pointed out that the majority of the parking will be on the street.

At the recommendation of a friend, the husband and I went to see The Heights a few weeks back. I've been in musical theater ( alooong time ago), I've worked in theater, and I have to say MTS is a jewel. The singing was exceptional as was the live orchestra. Set and production design were very good. Costumes, very good. The City of Albuquerque really should be promoting and funding MTS more than they do. The venue is small maybe 100 people, so get there early, and parking is a little sketchy so watch where you park. But really this a great place to see quality musical theater. I cannot wait to see Elf the Musical for Christmas.

Small, intimate local theater. Seating on two sides of the working stage area. Not a bad seat in the house. Saw Avenue Q last night. I was impressed with the quality of the sound system and the quality of the voices of the singers. The play was such great fun that I was tempted to give this a 5, but there were a couple of weaker voices in the ensemble, but overall the cast was excellent. It was open seating, so getting there early before the doors open at 7:00 for a 7:30 show assures you of a good seat. The lobby has a small snack bar open only at the intermission with cookies and snack bags of Doritos and Cheetos with water and soda pop available in bottles, but I don't remember seeing any food or drink in the theater seating area.A live band helped to enhance the musical experience. For affordable local musical theater, this would be a good place to go.Parking is mostly on the street, with limited parking in their lot.

The sign out front says Center for Theater and highlights many of the resources available from MTS -- and they're not kidding! An Albuquerque institution for decades, MTS has proven itself to be a leading community organization and resource for all things theatre. Great new black box performance space, high quality productions, specialized classes, abundant costume rentals, and there's even a singing troupe that can be hired out for events. The black box space itself is also available to rent. Albuquerque's had a vibrant theatre scene for years and MTS rightfully enjoys its place at the center!

Saw the MTSW production of In the Heights last Saturday. Saw the original Broadway production in 2008 in NYC and enjoyed this every bit as much. The small and intimate theater was a great venue and the actors were professional and talented. The choreography was very excellent. My whole family loved every minute of this great show.

I wish I could rate one of the productions at MTS, but the truth is that I never even got through the door. My husband and I and another couple attempted to go to a production in their black box space last weekend. When we arrived at the performance space at 7:30 for an 8:00 show, there was a line through the door. We hadn't purchased tickets yet, so we called to see if there tickets still available and were told that there were eight. So we parked and got in line. When we got to the front of the line, one of the women manning the fold out table that served as their ticket booth told us that they were sold out. I said that we had just called and were told that there were eight tickets. She said, well yes, she had said that but she made a mistake. We could wait until 7:50 so that she could see if everyone who had made reservations was coming. We had a discussion about whether it was worth it to wait or not, the seating was first come, first served. It was 7:35 so we decided to wait. In the meantime, we noticed how overwhelmingly hot it was in the "lobby". We went and peeked into the performance space. It was hot in there too. A woman heard us talking about the temperature and rushed to tell us that they were going to open some garage doors during the show which would considerable cool down the space. At 7:45, the line had ended and few people were coming in so we checked the status. The woman said that she didn't know yet. We asked if she would know by 7:50. At this point she said that she might know but she might not. It may not be until 7:55 that the knew or 8. Between the heat and the women who seemed very uninterested in seeing the show, we decided to leave.
