I probably don't fit the normal client profile for Blake. I'm in the contracting business for 37 years. When seeking out a contractor it can be a daunting task. Your looking for a contractor you can trust and one that is honest and affordable. The first initial consultation is vital. If the contractor forgets your address comes late without a phone call are red flags. Remember this is their " job interview " to insure confidence and reliability. I experienced both no call forgot my address no apologies for being late. I prepared a list of questions about the scope of the roof project. He didn't have many answers told me he will get back to me. I asked the person who referred me to Blake and told me not all went smoothly with Blake . The work was done incorrectly. But he has his following with with many in my area . They just open the check book and spend , not understanding they ate not getting the best service for their money.

I hate to post a negative review. I've publicly recommended Moonlight Roofing in the past, but my long-term experience has prompted me to recommend against using them.Ten months ago I hired Blake Davis to do some roof maintenance and accepted a proposal from him for a one-year maintenance agreement. No further work has been required however, which is fine - peace of mind is a wonderful thing when a $40k roof is involved. However during our recent storms I had leaks in two stove chimneys and one in my kitchen that was coming from one of my vigas.Blake said that even though the leaks were inside the house but on the outside of the chimney pipes, the roof was fine and to call a stove tech; and he said the leaking viga is so deteriorated that it needs to be cut off and covered with stucco, which I simply can't afford to do right now. I asked if he could caulk around the post to seal it up, even if it's a temporary fix. He said he would.A month passed with no sign of him so I called, and the short story is that Blake refused to do anything to fix the leak. I told him the last time this happened the roofer that had been contracted to warranty the roof during the property sale caulked it, that it was a tiny job, and it didn't leak again for three years. Blake told me to hire a handyman. I pointed out that he had already been paid for a maintenance agreement that had not required any work so far. Blake said he 'had his reputation to consider.'And there was another recent issue...Mice were getting to into the "crawlspace" above one of my bedrooms. I have a tile eyebrow along the front of the house and mice had chewed their way under the tile. Blake agreed to reroof it, but his estimate only included covering the eyebrow with rolled asphalt, which would have looked awful. I asked for an estimate complete with new tile and he said, 'let's do the first part and handle the tile later.' I told him I needed to know the cost of the entire job before we could begin but he never completed the estimate, leaving me hanging with no response to my inquiries.I ended up calling McPartlon Roofing to reroof the eyebrow. Great job; great company; great service; honest people who stand by their work. I called a stove company to check out the chimneys and they sealed between the plates and the roof... and they told me a roofer should have fixed it. And I guess I'll call McPartlon (not a handyman) to fix my viga.I could have understood some reluctance if my roof had been problematic over the course of the past year. I still would have expected Blake to honor our agreement, but I probably would have offered additional compensation just because I think it's important to be fair to all sides in a situation, even if we have the power or ability to take advantage. But this was the very first time Blake had to do anything in exchange for the money he had been given, and if it had been my business, even if I felt it was on the fringe or slightly outside my range of services (which I have come to understand it was not), I would have done what I could to help. But I guess the point is that unfortunately Blake just doesn't care about his clients, the money he's been paid, or the commitments he's made. He does what he wants, which in this case amounts to thievery as far as I'm concerned. Finally, while writing this I did something I should have done before: I checked online for reviews. Angi has Moonlight Roofing reviewed at one star. I wish I had seen that sooner. There are just too many other quality, responsible, and scrupulous (read honest) roofers here in Santa Fe.
