Monroe's Restaurant

Their food is delicious!! WE enjoy eating here after attending plays at Adobe Theater.

This is a Mexican restaurant. The waiter asked if we wanted chips and salsa. Of course we did. He did not mention that they were not free as is the custom at most Mexican restaurants.When I got the check there was a charge for $5.50 for a handful of chips and a small dish of salsa. All of the Mexican restaurants I frequent provide complimentary chips and salsa.I wish I was told that they were not complementary. By the way the food was average.

Another great recommendation from my son! We were immediately greeted by the friendly staff and directed to our table. Our waters, chips and salsa were served quickly. The chips were crisp, seasoned just right and the salsa was delicious; perfectly spiced! My cheese chili rellenos were a little burnt on one end but the rest of quite tasty. The beans and squash dish were great. My son's burrito was huge and he throughly devoured it.I like the layout of the restaurant; nothing fancy but very comfortable. The staff was so attentive and polite; we never ran out of water.

Food needs more flavor, and portions are smaller than other new mexican restaurants. I've sat down inside and have had to go orders and always felt a bit hungry after eating my meals. Typically, I have leftovers, which is nice to have the next day but not here.This feels like it is geared toward older folks who prefer to have smaller plates that have mild chile. For the price, I could get the same meal elsewhere and get more full with half the food. I definitely like to support local restaurants, but if the prices were lower, I would consider coming back otherwise I'll choose other places in town who have more flavor and bigger portions.

Ordered take out and one of our three orders was wrong. Received pork instead of beef in a stuffed sopiapilla. After contacting Monroe's they advised they would remake it while as I headed back (~ 7 minutes away). Upon arriving, it was not ready so I waited - 5 minutes. When I returned home, I was informed an hair was found in an order which was a huge concern and unfortunately there was another hair found in the replacement order. My food was good prior to noticing hairs so not sure if we will ever return.

I've been to a couple different Monroe's locations and it's always really good. This time I got the Super Combination, the star of the show was the taco. Kinda wished I had gotten just a taco plate. Sopapillas are good. Bonus points for carrying local beer. They serve it with a frosted mug. Wish they had chicharrones.

3 Stars = A Okay! I think I might get some heat for this review because Monroe's has a big fan base with a lot of regulars. The food is good, but nothing was memorable nor did anything stand out. I thought the green Chile was okay. The pozole was alright. They didn't give options on a size and the bowl is pretty small. I got the breakfast burrito which was good. I appreciated they didn't fill it with a bunch of hash browns and it actually had eggs/meat. If you're in the area for sure check it out. Great place for families and large groups!

Time for some tasty huevos. usually a stop while in ABQ. Great service by a team of folks, tasty food and a nice atmosphere. Pick up a day of chilies on the way out!

I really have no idea on food, service etc. Didn't go. I've never trusted any restaurant that doesn't put their prices on the online menu.

Food is always great! Don't miss out! If you have a chance to visit, do so, but you will be pleased ordering in!
