After years of visiting Madrid, I finally got to eat at the Mine Shaft Tavern and it was worth the wait.I had the Blackjack burger - guacamole, pepper jack cheese, and bacon - cooked medium rare. It was the perfect level of pinkness and very flavorful. The fries were great, too.My husband had the special, chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and calabacitas, which was excellent. The beef comes from a local ranch and you can tell it's high quality.Service was excellent and attentive. We will definitely stop here again.

In New Mexico it's apparently very expensive to get liquor license for a bar but fairly cheap to get a tavern or brewhouse license. So we have a LOT of brewhouses that serve various formerly frozen foods with varying levels of service, prices, and assorted "brewed" alcoholic beverages. This particular one has ok food and ok service at prices you'd expect from a tourist trap. The ambiance is about what you might expect from a tourist stop with its name.I hear they have music sometimes but I've managed to narrowly avoid it any time I've been. Mad-rid, pronounced like that, is a destination out of town for motorcyclists and people cruising the various art shops in town. There aren't but a few choices of place to eat and this is one of them.

This very popular haunt is great for both a meal or a drink. Our friends enjoyed the BBQ Brisket Sandwich, green chile stew with big chunks of smoked brisket, Mad Chile veggie burger, Shaft Brisket melt, and the very tasty Wagyu steak and cheese enchiladas with rice and black beans. Everything was tasty and nicely prepared. The service is good and attentive. The prices are very reasonable considering the large portions. Once you get past the grouchy hostess, you will be set for a good time!

Tasty and enormous green chile burger with a cold local ale totally hit the spot after a day of hiking.Cool divey space with an interesting history, and our server was very friendly and had some good recos. My partner got the green chile burger but with buffalo, and said he preferred mine with the regular angus beef. We came by during an off hour, so we missed live music, but we left nice and full, and it definitely scratched our burger itch.

The Mineshaft Tavern is somewhat of a "right of passage" for traveling North 14! Located in Madrid, New Mexico, very expensive restaurant and bar offer plenty of indoor and outdoor seating as well as dark mineshaft style seating.Well, I thought about being more creative in my menu section, my friend and I decided to go old style New Mexico and ordered the green chili cheeseburgers. My friend ordered the Angus beef. I ordered the Wagyu beef. Both were very tasty and filling!

We went back, and had another great Green Chile Cheeseburger (Wagyu), which was excellent and cooked exactly as requested (med rare). This time I got an amazing fried chile on the side. I don't recall getting it the first time, but man, it's outrageous. Also tried the onion rings with the burger, superb! My wife had Fish and Chips, and it was excellent. Great quality fish, nicely fried and not at all greasy. We sat out again on the nice patio with the three dogs but it's getting too cool for that this time of year. But this place is super dog-friendly. Great service.

I took a road trip to Santa Fe, and some of the ladies from my solo travel group suggested I take the Turquoise Trail and I'm so glad I did. I had no idea the movie Wild Hogs had filmed here, so of course I had to make a stop at this cool spot in Madrid. I had their spicy margarita which was soooo yummy, and their hatch chili burger was the bomb! I had the buffalo, and it was so delicious. Definitely in the top burger category. Their fries are handmade daily and were crisp and tasty. Service was a little slow because they were short staffed, but the server did her best. Not many choices to eat, but if you're in the area I highly recommend their burgers and margaritas!

This spot is a little ways off the beaten pad and you can tell because there's no internet service. Thankfully, they do have it at this bar and they post the password on the blackboard behind the bar. This place has lots of character starting with the thousands of dollar bills posted to the back wall behind their liquor bottles. There's vitually no AC here, just ceiling fans, 2 window units and an evaporation machine. They've got a full bar and a live music soundstage at the back. We started off with some drinks along with chips and salsa. The chips and salsa were very mediocre, but they make a good margarita on the rocks. The burgers are a big hit here. The service was good and we enjoyed our visit here.

Was told by a colleague to have a burger here and was not disappointed. They had an excellent selection of local beers and our server could not have been any friendlier. I would recommend going with the fries over the upgrade to the soup.
