Los Chanquis Mexican & Seafood

Driving through town we decided to stop for dinner, and it did not disappoint. Ordered shrimp tacos and they were cooked to perfection. Decent salsa bar as well. Only down side was they couldn't serve alcohol! Still delicious and would totally go back if I'm ever in town again! Service was great too

I finally caught them open and wanted to try them out as they have many great reviews and I travel the corridor from Amarillo to Colorado Springs frequently.Well, I was disappointed. The service is non-existent, you order at the counter. The portions are pinche for the money. The food came on a styrofoam plate with tiny alcoves for the rice and beans. Adobada was very ordinary. The salsa bar is a joke with thimble sized plastic containers for your salsa. Can't believe this is the same place so many people think is good.It is housed in an ordinary building with nothing special about the decor.If you travel the same route or come up from Santa Fe, there are many better choices. Zayra's and Elida's in Springer, Habanero's in Trinidad, Maria's in Texline, Sierra Grande in Des Moines, and for best salsa and sopaipillas, La Española in Dalhart. All better food, all better value.

Crunchy tacos were awesome! Rice and authentic refried bean that were super tasty. This food was fresh and delicious. Comfortable seating inside. Salsa bar was good.

Delicious food! The salsa is a definite great place to start. Got the chicken and beef enchiladas, couldn't be much happier. Lots of great looking items on the large menu as well. A little expensive

This is a solid option if you need to dine in or around Raton. We are usually driving through at odd hours and don't stop. I did this trip and found this place on Yelp. It's clean, very friendly counter service, reasonable prices. It's an old bank building so it has a lot of charm. There is an odd mural on the wall of bourbon street New Orleans from back in the 70's. As for the food it was delicious. Nothing pretentious here, just great tasting stuff. I might add one star if the meal were served on real plates and not styrofoam. That's probably a holdover from Covid. Or a staff shortage or cost cutting (no need for a dishwasher!).

Looked forward to stopping here on our way to CO, but when we arrived it was closed even though it was during posted hours.

I red the reviews and we were in town and wanted to try a local place for lunch. It's in the downtown area and the restaurant was clean and staff nice. The food was good, even if you eat in it's delivered on disposable plates and plastic utensils. From the time we orders it took almost 40 Minutes to get the meal. If you're wanting a quick mean this isn't your place if you have the time to relax and talk this may be a good place.

Delicious and authentic Mexican food! We were driving through on a road-trip and this place was recommended by a local park ranger at Capulin Volcano N.P. We ordered the Quesibirria tacos and carnitas torta - they were both fantastic! The staff was very helpful and friendly, the dining room was clean and welcoming, and the restrooms were also nice and clean. Definitely worth the extra drive off the highway and into historic downtown Raton!

So the hotel we stayed at advertised a free breakfast however when we checked in they said they no longer offered the free breakfast so we found ourselves needing a place to eat breakfast after reviewing yelp like WE ALWAYS do we found this place and it did not disappoint!!!In keeping with our shop,dine small local businesses this was the ticket!Not knowing the time they opened we went around 9am the door was unlocked so we went in - we asked if they were open and the nice lady said not yet but what can I do for you? She literally asked the chef to accommodate us and he did! I got a breakfast burrito (at her recommendation) and I was STUFFED - it was huge and stuffed full of bacon / eggs /cheese and potato's. (All for 5.00 I might add!) the salsa was so fresh and delish too! Moral of the story - I'm glad the hotel stopped offering free breakfast
