La Mexicana

Stopped in for some fresh corn tortillas. I called ahead and the employee made sure they had what I needed and set it aside for me. They close early - 2 p.m.Their resident cats are carefree and cute.

I gave this restaurant a three-star rating because, from what I remember, their food is good. So are a lot of other local restaurants. My experience with their phone ordering process was lousy. Christmas, very busy, I get that. I called a couple of weeks before for tamales as everyone in NM does. Person took my order, didn't give me a order # or asked for payment, just told me to pick up on 12/22 or some date in that timeframe. I call a week before to verify my order and update. The person answering my call at that time was curt, short and temperamental. I asked about my order, was asked for my name/phone # and was told "ok, I'll check our 100 orders and call you back". The sarcasm was as thick as primo red chile. Then she hung up on me. I call back, this time perturbed and "cancelled" the order which was probably never logged anyway. I leave a comment on google documenting this exchange and w/in a day I get a lashing from the owner falsely claiming I demanded this and that. Why would I demand anything, I politely asked about my (non-existing) order. Reviews also work for service, respect and appreciation businesses have for their customers. My exchange w/this business left a lousy taste in my mouth. Alternatives....Abuelitas, Durans, Barelas, the person in the supermarket parking lot...much friendlier and less prickly.

The pictures the green chile cheeseburger looked so delicious, I had to come try it. I must say, it was disappointing. The bun was excellent, the cheese, cheesy and yummy, the chile had heat and flavor, and the meat seemed to be quality (enough) but it lacked flavor. Let's remember that the meat is the central piece of a cheeseburger. Every bite was a greeting of green chile flavor, and while that wasn't bad, it just isn't what a cheeseburger should be. If this place could get some smoky grill flavor into this burger, they would have the best burger in the state. (Example: Sparky's in Hatch delivers a burger patty that exudes grilled smokiness, though their meat quality is a little lacking.) I sincerely hope they step it up. I would be a dedicated customer. Until then, I won't be. I don't feel I can adequately rate this place after only one visit, so I'll give it three stars, but the burger was probably between 2 and 3 stars for me. I will say I greatly respect any business that's been around for 90 years and clearly has a connection with its patrons. It was a cool place to visit!

I have only been here once before today and it was a long time ago. That time the place was packed and I took the food to go and ate it on the road home so I had been wanting to come back for a long time and today I finally did. Me and my kid sat down and were greeted by a friendly waitress who took her time with us. Btw the place smelled like grandma's house if you know what I mean! My daughter even mentioned when we got down that it smelled like her grandma's kitchen. I got the same thing I got the first time I came here, the Breaking Bad burger and it was a lot bigger than I remember! Everything tasted great it was delicious. Prices were great as well $30 for two huge plates, chips, salsa and sodas! Sometimes I regret some of the places I stop at when I'm out foodieing but I left here very happy with my decision. Two thumbs up from me! If I had anything to gripe about, it would be that it's not open 7 days a week haha. Great little restaurant...

Don't forget to stop by to try their Taco Burgers. Everything I have tried is great. Full service with all your favorite foods to also take home. Holidays themed food and needs, from tamales to biscochitos.

They also have the best huevos rancheros and chile rellenos.Also the have a little store section with teas,herbs, green and red chile and homemade tortillas (I usually buy the blue corn tortillas).The service is always friendly and helpful.Ambiance is casual and welcoming.Just a wonderful family owned mom & pop restaurant.shop local,support local establishments and restaurants.* Pictured is some of the delicious food I have had here.

Great New Mexican food from a local eatery. Perfect place when you want a hole in the wall type of authentic feel. The service is good and not overwhelming.

The food is always good, service is so friendly and it a nice quiet, sometimes, out of the way, not really place. Stuffed sopapillas plate with green chile! Love it

The food was amazing. Got the family taco platter and enchilada casserole for a family gathering. Authentic New Mexican food with great chile and reasonable prices.

Good food, good prices and great employees. Homemade tortillas were awesome. Met the owner nice guy.
