The neighborhood isn't great and the building and furniture have seen better days so I was skeptical but I sat down anyway.I was very pleasantly surprised. The food was very good including my poached eggs, sausage patties, toast, and hash browns. I've had better hash browns but these were good and I ate them all.The service was excellent - the sort of thing you expect from highly experienced wait staff in a very well managed store. Friendly enough but not too friendly, clearly adjusting their interactions based on customer preference. I don't care for much chit-chat but others nearby obviously did. And they were on time with food, check backs, water, and check. Not sure when I'll be near there again but I will be back.

New Mexico may be the only place you get chips and salsa with breakfast, but I like it! My dad and my niece come here often, and assured me that even though the neighborhood is super sketchy, the food is good. This place looks like the coffee shops I remember going to as a kid--labs rock walls and a counter with seats. Our server was super sweet and helpful, and came back often to see if we needed anything.I had a delicious carne adovada stuffed sopapilla. We also ordered French toast with eggs and bacon and a carne adovada omelet with hashbrowns and a pancake, and everyone enjoyed their very large breakfasts. This might be in a relatively unsavory part of town, but it's worth the visit for the good food and good service!

I've been going there a few times now and it's my go to place for New Mexican food. First the chips and salsa are wonderful. The chips are light, and together with the salsa, wonders in the mouth. I've had the enchiladas, combination plate and tacos, which all were very tasty and delightful. Now for the tacos, they are the best tacos in Albuquerque that I have eaten and want to let you all know. If you like a nice crispy light shell taco, Kap's is for you. Very friendly employees.

I've heard lots of good things and people rave about this place on social media. Aside from the cool old school diner look and feel the food was very underwhelming. It's about it as good of a breakfast as you would be just as good as village inn or some other regular chain. I was hoping for it to be as good as people say online. The service was okay no issues there, overall the place is clean inside.

Come join Tom Neiman, Jim Tritten, and a few of the guys from the VA Creative Writing Group as we venture along historic Route 66 to Kap's Diner. A long-time favorite of New Mexicans, and travelers, this inconspicuous diner has great food, impeccable service, and a fine indoor eating environment. We recommend it and plan to return soon. Omg this place is hometown cooking, from American to Spanish to Italian. All tasty and a very very good price. Pictures on the wall take you a step back in time. Manager Netta and her staff are A #1. This place had been on my bucket list for over 15 years, so very glad I finally went there. Now my family and I try to visit once a week.

Today was a challenge at this otherwise rock-steady establishment. 30 minutes to get pancakes after ordering first, and watching the dining room get their plates first is unacceptable. Sounds like they got new cooks and they are cutting their teeth on the regulars. Need to re-think my trips down here.

Absolutely love Kap's Coffee Shop. Delicious food, customer service, and a large menu. I love the New Mexican food. It's also an Albuquerque landmark. You can't go wrong with eating at a delicious restaurant that the regulars eat at.

What a difference a few years and pandemic make. The food and service were excellent. My coffee cup stayed full. The chorizo & egg were flavorful without the often accompanying grease. It was a meal without the hiccups of our first stop. While not a knock on the business the city's failure to rein in rampant and unchecked homelessness in the area may cause the faint hearted to pass Kap's by. Highlighting the problem a newly installed fence encircles the bldg and parking lot. It's unfortunate because you may pass by a great meal.

The food was great! It reminded me of good old fashioned diner food with a New Mexico twist. The service was also outstanding. My hat's off to the chefs.
