Hondo offers some great New Mexican comfort food and pub fare at the base of the mountain in Taos Ski Valley. We ate there... two.... three times? I mean, there aren't too many options in this cute town, but Hondo has affordable eats.We tried everything from Philly green chili slides, chicken enchies with red and green chilis (Christmas-style), nachos... and a lot of red wine! I don't rec the margarita btw. It's all mix. (If you want a good marg, order from Rhoda's a stone's throw away.)Additional pros: Dog friendly (even inside), fire place, busy bar with people watching, outside patio... food comes out fast!

About what you would expect for a ski valley restaurant so no hard feelings. We came here for lunch with a friend after a morning of skiing, and while the atmosphere is pretty generic, it did feel pleasant to be in the warmth with some beer and festive company. The food is...not great. The lamb green chile stew came out with a mountain of sour cream on top, so that was unwelcome and gross, and scooped off immediately. The soup itself was not nearly hot enough (this will be a recurrent theme in all of Taos--do their stoves not work??) and the lamb was tough and unappetizing, but we did enjoy the broth. The chips sampler we got had a too sweet salsa and too oniony guac, but the queso was passable. Our friend's nachos weren't half bad but certainly nothing special. You take one look at this place and you know exactly what kind of quality you'll get, so we we were neither surprised nor disappointed. Ye olde three stars.

Nice little restaurant across from Lift 1. They have outdoor seating for Apres Ski. Plus a nice indoor bar and separate dining. They have happy hour from 2-5 with discounted appetizers & beverages. Service is efficient and friendly. They handle big groups well. I recommend a reservation because seating is limited.

Our last day in the ski valley was a Monday and almost everything was closed. A local recommended Hondo's and said to order the enchiladas if we wanted a real New Mexican dining experience. We arrived and there was not another soul in sight except the owner/manager/bartender- I'm not sure, but he was standing outside and seemed happy to have some customers. The ambiance was dated and a little gloomy, but I can picture it as being very cozy and comfortable in the winter. We ordered enchiladas- one order with green chile, one Christmas style (red and green) and a Reuben with fries. I also ordered a "spicy margarita", which was pretty pitiful. The best part about it was the tajin on the rim of the glass. One of my teenage daughters is queso crazy and ordered the chips and salsa with queso, even though the person who recommended Hondo's to us told her the queso would not meet the expectations of a born and raised Austin girl. She was right. The salsa was sweet without a hint of heat and the queso was probably nacho cheese out of a can. But, the enchiladas, y'all!!! They made up for it all! The posole was outstanding and the enchiladas were a gooey, delicious pile of comfort and joy! My other daughter enjoyed her Reuben and commented how fresh and hot her fries were. I say always trust the locals and this was a win!

Definitely the worst meal I've had in TSV. The service was very subpar with ignoring several of my orders. I should've known it wasn't going to be great as soon as I was the only group here. Food tastes like it was made a weeks ago. Don't come here. Just adding this for the ambiance part.

This is the best lunch in Taos Ski Valley. The enchiladas are bomb, the cheeseburger is fantastic, overall everything is really, really good. And it's a ton of food for the money. Awesome.

This place is old faithful. The food is reliably good and the service is good. The ambiance is a 70's ski hang out. We have never had a bad meal there in 20 years. You don't need a reservation.

Surprised reviews aren't even higher. Went here because Brownell Chalet was booked out. Super impressed! Patty Melt and Reuben were fantastic and service was quick and fries were piping hot. Other standouts among our party was tacos, warm spinach salad, Philly cheese steak and buffalo wings. Great food and great service and very reasonably priced considering destination.

The waiter at my table was nice and efficient. However, some of my family's food took about 40 minutes longer than the rest of ours. The host was also extremely rude. Food was blah at best.
