Wonderful shop with friendly, helpful staff. They have a wide variety of quilt fabrics, batting and notions, as well as some fabrics suitable for making leggings and clothes. They offer assorted classes as well as opportunities to participate in charity sewing projects. There is an onsite sewing machine repair technician too. Tucked away here and there are patterns and kits for various occasions, and holiday projects and sewing gifts are available far enough in advance of the holiday so a sewist can complete those little projects in time for gift giving. They have precut fabrics of various sizes that would make great gifts for your favorite quilter. They also offer extra wide fabrics for backing as well as pre-cut backing fabric. I love this local-owned shop!

I had a Singer Featherweight sewing machine painted purple by Hip Stitch. I bought it sight unseen and trusted all would go well, quite an investment, but I've always wanted one, purple that is. I cannot say enough about the wonderful service they provided! When I got my machine it was beautiful! Absolutely beautiful, but the actual sewing left a little to be desired. They assured me they would make it good even if I had to send it back, but they were able to talk me through it on the telephone and it was so minor, I'm almost embarrassed. A little oil here, a little oil there and my machine is fantastic! Hums along! They were so patient and kind and had wonderful follow through. Mel even called after to make sure everything was good. From New Mexico to Hawaii, just needed a little oil! I couldn't be happier with my shine newFeatherweight and thankyoutoHip Stitch!

I LOVE this fabric store!Any time we go to Albuquerque, I try to stop in. Their fabric selection is wonderfully curated. It's a small/medium sized store so they can't carry *everything* but they pick out the most on trend and up to date collections from the best fabric manufacturers. The employees and owner are very friendly and chatty. It makes you feel like you are really wanted there. I probably spend way too much time plucking bolts from the shelves and coordinating solids or other prints and never walk out without spending a bit too much money. BUT, unlike other fabric stores, I ALWAYS USE that fabric right away instead of falling slightly out of love with it once I get home. I know that whatever I pick out at Hip Stitch will get loved and whatever I make from it will be put into heavy rotation at this house.

Hip Stitch - Albuquerque, NMI, as a sewer and fabric hoarder, am completely obsessed with this store after only one trip in!After a little East Coast trip last year, I managed to find a tiny, locally owned fabric shop in Indianapolis, IN. I absolutely loved everything about the shop! It was quaint, cute, and better than any BIG retailer. Well, fast forward about half a year. I had forgotten that I wanted to look into something similar when I got back home. I finally remembered, and decided to look up fabric shops locally. This one caught my eye immediately, and I went right away to check it out! No regrets at all in doing this! I absolutely loved Hip Stitch! It had all the same elements as the one in Indiana, except it was HERE, in my home city! I came in with my husband in tow, and everyone was super pleasant to both of us as SOON as we entered. We felt completely right at home. The selection was great! So many new and unique prints to choose from, and completely reasonably priced for being a smaller, locally owned store. The staff not only was kind, but super knowledgeable on product and experience in the industry. I'm seriously thinking about coming back for some sewing classes as soon as I get some more free time! The class schedule seems to be really interesting and it's affordably priced compared to similar stores. We will be back (OR as my husband said as we left, "She'll be back again soon, and LOTS!").

What continues to bring me back to Hip Stitch are the people! Everyone is so friendly, ready to help, and make you feel a part of the community. They carry some of my favorite fabrics like Alison Glass, Me + You, Cotton and Steel, knits, lots of books, and yarn! This is why I shop locally for my fabric!

I travel frequently and try to visit local quilt shops wherever I go. Hip Stitch was a special treat. At the entrance I laid my eyes on a GORGEOUS Featherweight machine painted in an amazing purple. On entering the store I was warmly welcomed and given a tour through the store. Hip Stitch has fabrics that are unique to the store, Sashiko materials and patterns I have never seen before and lots of clothing patterns. It was a great experience and well worth the Uber ride from my hotel! A must-visit for modern quilters!
