Gainz fitness, formerly Blackbox has new owners who have changed things up. They have taken the gym back to what its roots are - a community where all are welcome to come (basically whenever they want- tons of hours) to get in better physical shape and have fun doing it. They give a free trial week, yes a whole week, because Tori and Claudette want you to experience the whole gym and all the classes, not just one time. Great for drop-ins on a vacation in Albuquerque, advanced athletes looking for all the equipment who need a push, and that first timer to crossfit. Come check it out, you won't be disappointed.

This place is awesome! I did a drop in here recently with a buddy of mine and they all treated me like I've been coming here for years. He's been in ABQ for a few months working and has found an amazing box with an amazing sense of community. Whether you're looking for a new box or just looking to do a drop in, I'd highly recommend Black Box!

The owners, the trainers and the workout are all fantastic at Black Box. I mean, what else could you ask for?! They tailor the workout to you if you need it harder or easier depending on your fitness level. And have different options for the WOD choices within a class. Seth, the owner, is an awesome guy and was very helpful in my class time decision. Graison was my trainer for the class I attended I he really focused on helping me perfect (or at least try) the move I was trying to complete. He was very encouraging and helpful throughout the whole class. The space is conveniently located right off of I-25. Its easy access from the freeway and back to it again. Overall it was a really great experience. I look forward to coming back soon.

I can't recommend Blackbox strongly enough! Here are 10 reasons:1. Great student discount.2. All of the trainers are competent, fun, friendly, attentive, and intelligent. Seriously, all of them.3. New and up-to-date equipment.4. Workouts are varied - always fun, never boring.5. Their emphasis on stretching and mobility makes recovery a breeze.6. Besides the regular workouts of the day, they also have mobility, 'power hour', gymnastics, and swimming WODs.7. WODs are available throughout the day from 630a to 7p.8. Seth's mustache (he's a co-owner).9. There are 60+ year olds - male and female - who leave me in their dust (I'm 31).10. The Saturday morning 9a intro class is free (so there is no reason not to try it out).Bonus: Blackbox has Crossfit for Kids too.

An awesome box. I have not been to very many CrossFit centric gyms...but I have been to various weightlifting gyms around the country...this one has by far been the best. They have multiple areas in the gym for OLY lifts or crossfit...and an upstairs with a heavy bag and other equipment. Every trainer I have encountered during a WOD or open gym: very nice and knowledgeable. Not intimidating at all as the people make you feel very welcome. Their programming is awesome, and challenging. I love how we do a solid warm-up, a set of skills work, then the WOD. The camaraderie is great...I almost feel like I am back in college playing on a sports team again...love the competition. Coming into the gym I had only done Crossfit a couple of times, but the trainers gladly helped me understand the workouts and have immense patience when teaching me different skills. The hours for open gym and WOD classes are easy to make with a busy schedule. They also offer other services apart from Crossfit, which I hear are top of the line as well. The owners are very nice and really seem to care about everyone. Customer service is excellent when I inquired online about the gym and pricing, I received an almost immediate response and one of the owners gave me her phone number to text with all of my questions. I have been recommending this place to all my friends who are looking for a Crossfit type gym or just a gym in general! Way to keep it classy Blackbox.

This review is slightly overdue. A few weeks at least...I first heard about Black Box when cruising the web researching CrossFit in 2010. I went on to begin CrossFitting on my own in the garage for a year and a half and saw great results. Fast forward awhile and my wife decides she wants to try CF and I direct here here because the location is optimal for the base and I'd heard good reviews. She took the free class and loved it. Then, my neighbor asks about it, so I took him for our (both) first free class. The facility is perfect for CrossFit, they've got the right equipment (Rogue) and good trainers with great intentions. They have classes for everyone including Oly Weightlifters and Kids. The free class takes you through some simple bodyweight movements and usual Cf programming. The kicker is, you can keep on taking the free class if you want until you get the gusto to jump into an on ramp class. There's no pressure to join and genuinely good people all around.I'm sure I'll be back soon to get my CF on.

This is a great box, in fact, one of the best I have ever been to. I am an avid Crossfitter (I workout 5 to 7 times a week) and recently moved to ABQ temporarily. In addition, I have been a member at some of the arguably best known gyms in the country and Black Box absolutely compares and in many respects surpasses them. Reasons:1) Very engaged coaches. The coaches are all super friendly and very passionate. It is also obvious they are all well trained and professional (it is my understanding that all coaches must have advanced training well beyond the L1). Even for "experienced" Crossfitters, they require a free movement screening where they identified some technique and mobility issues that helped me immensely. 2) Facilities. The facilities are awesome. They have two huge rooms (and a mobility/yoga loft) and every piece of equipment imaginable--including strongman, sleds, quality olympic lifting bars and plates, etc. They are never "short" on equipment during a workout and there is plenty of space to workout safely and efficiently. Finally, because of the set up, there is often open gym time available even during classes so athletes can work on their own programming or weaknesses while still being supervised by a coach .3) Tailored Programming and Coaching. The coach to athlete ratio is awesome; there have been specialty classes where there are two coaches for three athletes. And for this reason, every athlete, no matter the skill or experience, gets a great and very safe workout. There is plenty of time to coach and monitor athletes to ensure improvement, solid technique, and safety. As Crossfit continues to grow, it is tough to really coach and mentor athletes of varying levels in a gym, but they do a great job of coaching each athlete from beginner to advanced. Finally, there is even a coach there to coach, not just monitor, during open gym time.4) Price. The price is absolutely outstanding for the level of individual coaching and facilities at Black Box. I have happily paid significantly more for lesser facilities and coaching. It truly feels like getting personally trained whenever I go to class or even open gym.5) Friendly members and great community. The coaches and other members are just super welcoming and friendly. There are some very good athletes at Black Box but not even a touch of pretense. They definitely welcome everyone, beginner or advanced, regardless of the skill level.Overall, a great gym with great people.

I was in Albuquerque for only a short while and I needed a change, so I researched the different gyms in the area and Black Box was the obvious choice. After calling them and meeting with Seth I knew I made the right choice. Seth, Jessie, and the rest of the crew were fantastic. After my initial nutrition and work out session I was toast, but I had a road map designed specifically for me. Seth spoke my language throughout all three months of my transformation. He was as invested as I was, and ensured I never gave up. Fitness wise they were all great about ensuring I lifted properly, giving me alternate choices if I wasn't able to do a certain workout. Nutrition wise Seth was always available if I had a question regarding a certain food or types of food. I could text him a food picture if I was unsure and get his advice instantaneously. He was the perfect mix of tough love and encouragement. At the end of my transformation I lost a total of 29 lbs, could fit into clothes I haven't been able to fit in for years, and most importantly was in the best shape I've been in for a long time. My only regret was having to move home and leaving the Black Box family. I've been set up for success and am continuing to lose weight, so I can not recommend Black Box more. You won't be disappointed if you go with them.

Exceptional trainers, welcoming environment regardless of experience or fitness level, many class offerings, 2 free intro wods/week that you can take as many times as you want for those who might be new to CrossFit or take more time to decide if they like something or not. You can thrive competitively if you wish, or if you want a good burn that is fine too...any goal is supported. You have the option to train in a group setting or with a coach 1:1. The facility is spacious, clean, and organized. It is a fun environment to train and see positive change happen. Can't say enough good things. Highly recommended.
