Air Conditioning out in the entire facility. They have no newscast system. Almost everyone has cell phones, they can do a message over it by creating a group with everyone's phone number on it. Really no creativity or imagination to help with communication in the event of a major problem. Air Conditioning out for most of the day for entire facility. No plan for residents comfort or safety. No one has gone room to room to check on the residents, especially those with oxygen. No offer of fans or help to get the resident's windows open. No handing out cold drinks in the lobby, handing out bags of ice, no reaching out to the residents at all. Residents have been given no news, no notice about when to expect the air back on.

We have lived at the Fairwinds for over a year now. As in all this type of life change, we were a little nervous moving from a residential setting ti a retirement home. Our fears were quickly put to rest with the wonderful staff here. From the first day we were here to today as I write this, we have been treated very well. There have bern changes in many areas along the way but the changes have only been improvements to make it more enjoyable. When you come in the door, you are greeted with friendly faces and pleasant smiles. The restaurant dining is exceptional and the multiple choices gives everyone something they will enjoy. The housekeeping staff is warm and they do a great job making sure our apartments are cleaned on a weekly basis. The activities director offers us a wide variety of things to do and entertainment is brought in several times a month. Every Friday afternoon, there is the Happy Hour with a live band and dancing. What more could you ask for?Oh, I know ... the renovations are beautiful and bright for everyone to enjoy. My final words are that it's difficult to keep so many elderly people happy but they do a great job here. If you are looking, I highly recommend that you tour The Fairwinds.

I completely agree with the other review of this facility! Things have gone from bad to horrible. The filth is beyond tolerable. The lack of response from management unacceptable. Now the residents are on "lock down" (again) because of health issues... not sure if this is because of the overall cleanliness issues or worse the food and kitchen issues. I have also spoken with management, then nothing is done that was promised. Barking dogs at all hours, bad maintenance, horrible food, filth and lack of concern for residents health. My 89 year old mother in law was forced to clean up leaks from her kitchen sink, caused by maintenance people, so she wouldn't fall. She is undergoing cancer treatment, she reported the leaks days ago as did I and after the GM promised to follow up nothing has happened. I have written corporate with no response. If they would spend half the money making things right that they spend on advertising maybe Fairwinds would be worth the money!I have met with Nora, GM, today and will update my review off things improve.

My mother lived at Fairwinds for the past 2 years. Having to choose an assisted living community for the first time, they made it easy for us! We toured several in the Albuquerque/ Rio Rancho area, and this one was the nicest as far as decor, cleanliness, friendly staff, good quality meals and desserts. We loved the open plan lobby with the bistro counter, and all the activities and extras they offer their residents. The care staff did an amazing job caring for my Mom and she never felt neglected or disrespected at all! We both found it easy to communicate with any of the care staff and office staff. Unfortunately, they do not accept Medicaid which is why we had to relocate her. Had it not been for that, my mother would have stayed there. We highly recommend Fairwinds at Rio Rancho!

The staff is fantastic - friendly, caring, kind and fun. With a new chef here, the food is always good. If it's not to your liking, that may be because you simply don't care for the ingredients. If that's the case there is an "everyday" menu to order from. Chef likes to serve a variety of cuisines, so not everyone likes everything. I'm one of those, and I never lack for something good to eat. And the Bistro is available to fill in the gaps with pizza, sandwiches, soup, etc. There are LOTS of activities to participate in every day. Music, games, movies, and so much more. The HVAC system was replaced last year (2023), and individual apartment units are being replaced as needed, on a schedule. The building is some 25 years old, so there have been updates needed, and performed. I will also add that the residents are also wonderful. I have made a lot of great new friends since I moved here in 2021.

If you are researching Independent Living/Assisted Living Facilities I highly recommend Fairwinds Rio Rancho which is a Leisure Care Facility. My mother lived at this facility for the last three years of her life and the care she received from the staff was first rate. The leadership from the General Manager and the Director of Health and Wellness is so so impressive. All of the staff that serve the community are competent and also have respect, regard and empathy for the residents. The Health and Wellness staff all work to provide quality care with respect/regard for the residents. In addition, the grounds of Fairwinds Rio Rancho are beautiful surrounded by beautiful cottonwood trees with a view of the mountains. When you are looking for a place that will keep your loved ones safe, content and secure many facilities claim to offer so much, but in reality do not come close to being a place I would have trusted for my mother. When the facility fell under new management in 2019 the level of service and care increased by 100%. So I recommend you ignore any review that was written before June 2019. For the last two years, my mother received excellent care. And the management of this facility kept COVID out which is pretty amazing when you look at how poorly many assisted living facilities performed during the pandemic.I adored my sweet mother and transitioning her to assisted living was one of the most difficult decisions I made in my entire life. But I will never regret selecting Fairwinds Rio Rancho. If you are looking for assisted living/independent living in New Mexico, Fairwinds Rio Rancho is the best and only choice.

One of my relatives has lived at Fairwinds for several years. Everything in the older negative reviews is accurate; however, there is a new manager and things are improving. The worst of the issues have been taken care of, and if a few more problems are addressed, it could quickly go back to 5 stars. The food has improved, but is still often too salty, and menus really do not supply enough vegetables. Housekeeping is generally OK, although some clearly need more training. Maintenance is much better, although wait time for minor repairs is still rather long. The redecorating project took months to complete, but is nice. There continues to be a lot of turn over of employees, but my relative says most of the new ones are competent and nice.Contrary to another review, there is a system for making "robo calls" to individual apartments, which has been in place for months. There is also a number residents can call to hear a list of the day's activities. My relative is in the independent living part of the building, so I have no information about the assisted living section. In summary, no one need hesitate to move to Fairwinds. As things continue to improve it will go from good to excellent.
