I was fortunate enough to get tickets to the Zoom Event for Head Over Heels. The process to get me tickets to the event was super easy and several people reached out to make sure I had all the information to view the event. The show consisted of a variety of acts, plus 3 women who were the emcees of the event. I think the emcees had more fun than anyone!!! Because of the way I logged in, I was able to comment on the acts, which in this new world, made me feel a little like I was there. There was even an act that requested audience participation, and it was fun to see others chiming in.I must say that this isn't my favorite way to see a show, but I totally admire all the participants for putting their all into the show.

Without getting too involved in the history of this company, which likely isn't why you're reading this review, I want to say that I first encountered this theatre company back in, oh, maybe 2009. Two founders of Duke City Rep, Amelia Ampuero and Frank Green, made cordial, friendly small talk in the black box of North 4th about how they'd chosen Albuquerque as their home because they felt our city was the perfect hatching ground for a more mature theatre scene. Green, in particular, struck me as a passionate dude with a "look" that stuck, he was simultaneously wily and steady, the kind of guy I wanted to see on stage.Since that time they've filled their resumé with winning productions at The Filling Station and the polished, Union-supporting company, The Cell. This year I had an opportunity to catch their Halloween thriller, "Night of the Living Dead". Set in a basement during a zombie apocalypse, Duke City Rep managed to suspend my disbelief for the better part of 40 minutes. I finally got to see Green in action, too, and he didn't disappoint. This company has the gritty, ambitious feel that founded another Burque performance ensemble, Tricklock. There's no time like the present to catch this crew in action -- they're gelling and connecting, there's an energy on stage that typically won't stick around too long, that's just the way the theatre beast rolls; like bands that get signed to major labels, eventually that chemistry splinters. So right about now, you're looking at a really good garage band, you best see a show.

I must say, Duke City Repertory Theatre REALLY appreciates their fans! I mean, what other theater in Albuquerque throws a party for their patrons? This marvelous party happened at their rehearsal space and featured wine, beer from Tractor and Red Door breweries (poured by super friendly DCRT Member Frank G), and some non-alcoholic drinks. The food was great, featuring pigs in a blanket, cheesy bread, olives, and a delicious selection of meats and cheese. We got to meet many members of the Duke City team including Amelia Ampuero, Josh Heard, and Alícia Webb. All of them were fun to talk to and were super excited about this Award Winning Repertory Theatre. Thanks to DCRT member Ezra Colon, who gave us a very informative tour of the rehearsal space. I must admit, after talking to him, I recognized his passion and drive for the success of this community involved theater. By the way, he is producing an upcoming performance of the "Jungle Book", which my wife and I will be attending in March. Also, this Spring, DCRT will be featuring Shakespeare productions in local Albuquerque bars, called "Bard Crawl: Twelfth Night". I was told the first one will be a comedy.I wish this theater continued success and applaud their community involvement. They offer acting classes for kids in the summertime. It is truly refreshing to see a theater genuinely appreciate the city and state that they perform in. In addition, the quality of the acting and stage design is head and shoulders above the "other" local theaters. An extra special thanks to Marketing Director Ashley Daniels, for being so kind and offering us free tickets to the event.

Albuquerque's hidden gem!!! Run don't walk to their next performance. If your smart you'll just buy the season pass and enjoy each performance they offer. My husband and I watched The Jungle Book last night - by far one of the best theater performances I've ever seen. Each performer is a "superstar" , very talented individuals that you won't want to miss.

Wow. I am completely BLOWN AWAY by this local theatre company! I have seen multiple shows done by DCRT (including The 39 Steps, Animal Farm, All I Want for Christmas is my Two Front Teeth, Death and the Maiden, Julius Caesar, and more!) and they are all wonderful. The stories are captivating, the actors do brilliant work, and people of DCRT are so kind. The technicalities of the box office are pretty sweet too: tickets are usually below $15 or you can purchase a season subscription to use at all of their shows or to take your whole crew to just one show. They also offer deals if you purchase tickets in advance. Lastly, they allow you to eat and drink while IN THE THEATRE, which is so cool! I love eating cookies and seeing a great piece of art. This year, their company is producing plays all over the city of Albuquerque, highlighting the different areas that make this city so great. They take "found" spaces and turn them into a different world that you can dive into. It's amazing. If you get a chance to see this phenomenal company in action, I urge you to do it. They are one of the hidden gems in New Mexico and do great things for the people and city of Albuquerque.
