The Center of Southwest Culture, Inc. is a non-profit organization that has been serving indigenous and Latino communities in New Mexico for more than 50 years. They provide economic development, plus educational and cultural work to communities throughout the State. A primary project focus of the Center is "A Backyard Gardening Project" for NM communities through bilingual workshops with topics that range from How to make Compost, Proper Ways to sow Seeds, Transplanting, Companion Planting, Managing Insect Pests/Bugs, and How to use Drip Irrigation. Seeds and drip irrigation supplies are provided to households in Community Workshops with complete instructions on how to grow a successful Backyard Garden. Families are strengthened as they work together to grow healthy food through their own backyard gardens. Communities are strengthened through reclamation of their cultural traditions and ancient growing practices reclaimed through backyard gardening.Thank you to Arturo Sandoval, the Founding Director of the Center of Southwest Culture, for providing many valuable services to communities throughout New Mexico.
