"A man's testimonial to a beauty supply shop that caters (almost) exclusively to the ladies:I'm pretty happy with my genetics, as far as hair goes. I got my dad's genes, thick stuff, no worries about balding anytime soon. But for the life of me, for the better part of a decade I haven't been able to find a decent shampoo and conditioner without dropping a dime times one thousand at high-end salons. And this is partly to do with my southwestern locale, I'm sure; the water out here will dry your cuticles and follicles equally. But the crap I've tried at the big outlets leaves my head either insanely oily or stiff as straw. I've tried almost all of it. I said The Hell With It, try Sally.Thanks to the cool service I received here, and the insane deal on two buckets of product ($20 for two huge tubs of shampoo/conditioner), I'm officially saved. The woman who helped me explained that the vast majority of these products are laced with chemicals that artificially make your hair feel fuller. She directed me to a stripped down product that totally worked for me. I'm guessing I won't be buying anything for the next year, and when I do, I'll come back to this outlet."

My tiny, two ounce jar of Desert Deodorant from Dryland Wilds is such a powerful and intense product, a teensy dab does my pits plenty, just once a day, and I often sniff myself, if only to be briefly transported to the air of Abiquiu. This is an incredible company, with a simple approach to sourcing health and beauty products in harmony with the natural world. I'm so glad they call New Mexico home.A few more brief notes. Robin Moore and Cebastien Rose are transplants from California and the Pacific Northwest, with plenty of experience crafting products from plants and herbs. They moved to northern New Mexico to live a life in the high desert wilds, while running a business that sustainably expanded our knowledge and appreciation for native species. Alongside the product line, they teach small classes at various festivals and businesses around the state; last week, I had the pleasure of hand-moulding tree sap incense, infused with flowers and essences, and I learned that much of what I thought I knew about the shrubs and weeds of this state were common misperceptions. "The Nizhóní Soap Company was originally established by a young Navajo girl from Shiprock, NM.Almost close to their 4th anniversary of being a soap making company, I finally got to visit their Old Town Albuquerque store on June 14, 2023.They are currently closed Sunday-Tuesday with the rest of the week open from 11AM-5PM.This store is on the small side, but decorated nicely. The young lady behind the counter was very friendly and assistive when I couldn't find a specific foam hand soap ($12.97 for an 8-oz pump bottle). While they were out of many items, they did have the Desert Rain scent I was hoping for. A bit on the pricey side, but it's a good, mild hand soap.A pre-pay parking lot is nearby. Other locations are in Farmington, NM, and Mesa, AZ.Follow this now older teenager/young woman on Instagram @nizhonisoap - her videos always feature cool upbeat music, her scent inspirations, and of course that beautiful natural Southwest desert landscape in the background!"
