"Grandma seems to like it here many different activities to do very friendly and helpful staff rooms are a little small and not many visitors can visit at one time..."
"Air Conditioning out in the entire facility. They have no newscast system. Almost everyone has cell phones, they can do a message over it by creating a group with everyone's phone number on it. Really no creativity or imagination to help with communication in the event of a major problem. Air Conditioning out for most of the day for entire facility. No plan for residents comfort or safety. No one has gone room to room to check on the residents, especially those with oxygen. No offer of fans or help to get the resident's windows open. No handing out cold drinks in the lobby, handing out bags of ice, no reaching out to the residents at all. Residents have been given no news, no notice about when to expect the air back on."
"This review is primarily about the ownership, management, and administration of this senior-care company. Following an accidental situation with my mother (the patient) I reported the incident to the supervisor, who was my point of contact, and was told to contact the owner. I did and spoke with the owner; I was told by him that he would have to check if the care worker had reported the incident and he had to get her side of the story. Before speaking with him, I spoke with their office worker and requested an incident report to document the issue. I was told that I would be emailed a report to complete within one hour. I called later that day to remind her, then verbally requested one from the supervisor; I didn't receive a fillable report until the next day. In a text I received from the supervisor: "Let us know if we can come out and do a family meeting to discuss how we can improve our service and if we can make things right." During the severing phone call with the supervisor, I was scolded for not meeting with them in person and blamed for not taking my mother's accident with the care worker, more seriously--when we were lead to believe it was not serious, by the care worker upon initial report. To add insult to injury, when I received the invoice, that included that shift, we were charged $3 more per hour for this care worker. I promptly requested an explanation and was told, and received, a corrected invoice. In a succeeding text from the supervisor, I was again scolded for not meeting with them in person; "...we wish you well and very sorry when you weren't able to sit down and work it out...". We never received a "request" to sit down and work it out. To reiterate: "Let us know if we can come out and do a family meeting...". Meanwhile, my sister posted a negative review about the care and poor communication received from the company during this whole ordeal. We, as a family, are not happy."
"MOMS REVIEW LIFE SPIRE:It's taken me a VERY LONG time to put this review in...On the outside this seemed like a well equipped place to put mom who was suffering dementia. I wanna first start with staff, there were good people who really cared for their patience, but upper management seemed to limit them. Hostile work environment and high turn over. Then the problems began...mom was aggressive from the disease and some staff understood and some just had no patience for it. I'm gonna just put facts in this review and limit my emotions into it. Mom had several falls here, now I know some will say that's what happens..however it was so excessive that the State was investigating instances and my mom was one their cases...she had fallen, broke 4 ribs and was hospitalized several times and some of the staff did not acknowledge her pain it was a family member who did. We had SEVERAL discussions about the lack of cleanliness in her room...and how staff was instructed to not speak to family about what happens within the building...leaving mom on the floor for hours, and not until a angel of a staff member took upon herself to rectify the situation..and then was in trouble for telling me. Management disputes the fall...needless to say we began the process of removing mom from LifeSpire, Oakland and on that day discovered mom was again in pain...we had her removed by ambulance to hospital and discovered the reason for her pain was a medication given to her by in house doctor that DID NOT NOTIFY FAMILY, PRIMARY DOCTOR that it was being given and was shutting down her kidneys...We NEVER WENT BACK and found another placement for her...but by that time she had digressed to being able to speak, walk and being a semi-functional person to non verbal, 2 person hold patient. She passed October 8, 2018. This establishment does not put family first and keeps information from the family when an open door policy is what you want from the place you are sending your loved one. That CLEARLY DID NOT HAPPEN in moms case!! Be very aware and cautious!!!"
"This review is for the skilled nursing facility for short-term rehab. If you are expecting exceptional care, skilled care, compassion, assistance with ANY IADL/ADL assistance in this exceptional luxurious facility, then this place IS NOT for you or your loved one. They do a a wonderful job admitting you then it's quickly downhill from there. They have adequate staff around the clock, just not adequate enough to tend to or provide you sufficient care for you to get better to return home. They kept my MIL's door closed almost at all times. That's attentive, alright....They took longer than 30+ minutes every single time to tend to her. This included accidents that could've have been prevented. The professionalism and demeanor is insulting considering the field they are in. This includes the management staff.I hope DOH steps in and requires the company re-trains the whole skilled nursing staff and team. Please discuss with your doctors/loved ones before agreeing to transfer here from the hospital post surgery or in need of wound care."
"At this point in time there are three (3) what appear to be legitimate reviews of Las Palomas Center. It is a Genesis facility. There is more than one Genesis facility in Albuquerque. This review is specifically for the Las Palomas Center. All three previous reviews (April 2015, July 2018, and November 2019) rate this Rehab & Long Term Care center as a one (1) star facility. It was even mentioned that they would rate the Center as a zero (0), if they could. Needless to say, none of the reviewers were pleased with the care that they, or their family member, received here.I have a long-time friend who was first in the Rehab section and eventually the care she needed required her to be moved to the Long-Term Care section. Having visited there for a couple of months now, I would tend to agree with the previous three reviewers. The care is mediocre to severely lacking. I have met a couple of caregivers who genuinely seemed to be working in the best interest of the patients; but I have also seen a lack of empathy by some for their charges that bordered on mistreatment. These patients are primarily old and ill. They have lived full lives and now either do not have family who are in a position to physically care for them, or no longer have family nearby. Every time I visit, I hope and pray that the parent company - Genesis - looks at these people as more than $$, but as human beings who have contributed to the greater good of our world. I am giving them 2 stars, because I am hoping that Genesis steps up and corrects the areas that are lacking.P.S. It is a beautiful facility. Lets hope I will be able to update this review in the future to say the care is now "beautiful." In the meantime, if your loved ones need to be cared for, even temporarily, check out other facilities in your neighborhood."
"Over a year ago, we toured many independent and assisted living facilities in Albuquerque, when my mother needed additional care. This one turned out to be the right fit for my mom. It was small enough to not overwhelm her, and they welcomed her into a one bedroom apartment with her cat. There are daily activities that many of the residents attend. The staff are friendly and patient, and clearly care about the residents. The dining room is open and sunny. Many times during the day, people check in with my mom to make sure she is doing well. The director, Monica, has been great about problem-solving my mom's health issues as she begins to decline. I am very pleased about the care my mom is receiving there."
"Really difficult to review a place like this. I don't live there but I have a dear friend who was recently placed there by his doctor and daughter. When I first heard he was there I was immeasurably sad. I thought this would be the beginning of the end for him. He's fiercely independent and has lived in the home he and his wife built for more than 50 years. He loves his walks and our beautiful neighborhood. However - several months in I am now very grateful he is there. He has some pretty significant senility issues and forgets what he told you ten minutes ago. But his cognition has greatly improved since being here. I think having people around him and folks to talk with has made all the difference. He's so much more lucid, it's amazing. The facility itself is not bad, as these places go. There is the odor of urine, as you might expect, but it's not pungent - I get the impression they work hard on keeping it clean so smell is not an issue. They have a lovely, quite large bird cage with lots of finches. It's fun to watch them and brings a sense of lighthearted life to the place. There's also a beautiful fish tank for residents to enjoy. There's an outdoor area with a walkway around a lovely grass yard and benches all around, as well as tables with chairs and umbrellas. Apparently they have barbecues out there fairly regularly in nice weather. Last time I stopped by to take him to lunch, he was listening to a live violin concert. It was really lovely. I don't know the deeper details because this is my friend and not a family member. But he is quite happy there and I'm so glad his daughter chose this place. Thumbs up!"

This facility contracts its medicine doctors out to any doctor with a pulse. The doctor who was attending to patients while we had a loved one staying there lives in Arizona and has to travel to New Mexico for a job. This is common for physicians who get their license suspended in their home state. Our loved one had been in the hospital for bacterial meningitis. They discharged them form Bear Canyon to go home with the understanding that they live alone. We had to have our loved one transported back to the ER 26 hours later. When they tested her blood she had a 21000 white count. This is a huge fail that even novice web md rangers could catch. They discharged a patient from their facility with a life threatening infection. Far too much focus on the pt and nothing at all on the medicine. If you care about your loved one do not place them at bear canyon or any other Genesis facility for that matter. The state is actively investigating this facility.

I completely agree with the other review of this facility! Things have gone from bad to horrible. The filth is beyond tolerable. The lack of response from management unacceptable. Now the residents are on "lock down" (again) because of health issues... not sure if this is because of the overall cleanliness issues or worse the food and kitchen issues. I have also spoken with management, then nothing is done that was promised. Barking dogs at all hours, bad maintenance, horrible food, filth and lack of concern for residents health. My 89 year old mother in law was forced to clean up leaks from her kitchen sink, caused by maintenance people, so she wouldn't fall. She is undergoing cancer treatment, she reported the leaks days ago as did I and after the GM promised to follow up nothing has happened. I have written corporate with no response. If they would spend half the money making things right that they spend on advertising maybe Fairwinds would be worth the money!I have met with Nora, GM, today and will update my review off things improve.

I've witnessed bugs on the floor. Feces on the wall of a patient's bathroom. I understand that good help is hard to find, but when there is little to no help for these patients, one has to wonder why costs exceed $1200 per day. Food is ghastly with a good amount of sugar in each meal and very little proteins. Beware using this facility as your loved one's health may be in jeopardy. Now there are several patients that have been removed and hospitalized due to an infectious gastro-intestinal illness. Keep your loved ones OUT OF HERE.

"This company has no communication process for alerting families when covid is active in the house. You are very vulnerable when you visit. Their employess often work 24 and 36 hour shifts. This results in no hourly bed checks so if your loved one falls it will go unoticed. If your loved ones wake all night it won't be seen. While many care takers are kind, this in my mothers experience at her house wasn't the case. My mother had many falls and multiple injuries while she was there. My mom didn't like her caretaker, I think she was frightened of the caretaker. The door was left open by this same caretaker and a resident wandered off. My mom was removed from this location and as I have now learned she wasn't the first one. It was because of the same caretaker.Maybe this house was aone off but they did nothing to help the residents after concerns were brought forward. Maybe my mom just got unlucky by living at the wrong house."
"Beautiful senior living community. Great staff and fun activities for seniors needing more help"
"Absolute wonderful place! Exceptional care! Positive atmosphere! The best rehab available to those who are looking for somewhere to go!"
"This facility was AMAZING! 5 STARS!! The staff and in particular: Jamie, Lupe & Ellen, RN treated our Mom and our family like Family! We would HIGHLY recommend this facility to anyone who wants the absolute best care for their family member or loved one!Our mom was always dressed and cared for with the best care. Additionally, Jamie would send pics of her (See Attached) and updates on her condition as I was oftentimes travelling & out of town for work and my brother lives in California. The entire staff at Advantage was gracious, caring, accommodating and focused on providing the absolute best care they could provide. This facility has a very homey and comfy feel that is open and easy to navigate. When we moved our mom into the facility they accommodated us by having the side door open to help us unload and get her moved in.Having worked with 2 other facilities over 3.5 years to accommodate our parents this facility was by & far the BEST ONE!! Thank you so much!"
"Before actually visiting the center I was a little nervous mostly from reading past reviews. After meeting the staff and visiting, I felt much more at ease. They have some of the friendliest staff, they're very committed to the care their patients and overall this has been a great experience for our family. I highly recommend Sandia Ridge for their family members."
"My mother has resided at Avista Senior Living Albuquerque for 11 years now. I am very happy with the facility and even more so the staff. My mother is very well taken care of and I have zero worries about her care or needs at Avista. I've often visited on varying days of the week and at varying times and the level of care is always very good. They have many core staff members that have been there for the entire time (and longer) that my mother has been in their care. The current Executive Director has been in her current position longer than any other ED at this facility and has all of the staff and residents concerns at heart. The consistency, the cleanliness, the care, the food are all at the highest benchmarks in the industry. They also engage the residents in many activities from group exercises to arts and crafts to singalongs. I could not recommend Avista more highly and know that anyone's loved one would be very well cared for at this facility."
"I was put in touch with Stellar through Legacy Home Health care and it was the best thing they could have done. Corey and her team went above and beyond to make sure all my parents needs were addressed. I couldn't recommend them highly enough!!"
"Don't send your loved ones here! They are outrageously expensive and will demand every penny. They will not work with you to overlook any fee, even one that can be adjusted. They are also not transparent. We were told my dad could attend their memory care. On his scheduled day, they never picked him up and never told us why. We had to call for answers. Find another place!!"
"Be warned They are chronically understaffed. If you don't mind you loved one waiting 30 minutes for a response on their nurse call buttion this might be a place for you. The issue here is the call system was working, it showed the call at the nurses station, but there was no alarm after 10 minutes of being not answered. The facillties service level is it should be answered in 10 minutes. My relative was helped into the bathroom and forgotten for an hour in his wheel chair. He could not signal for help. The food looks like the cheapest food they could find. As a good point they made efforts to meet dietary requests, as they should. The staff was helpful when they were available. My guess is the money is being siphoned off into director salaries and not being used for everyday staffing. The excuse was they were short staffed that day. If it only happend once I wouldn't be warning other folks this this review. Something happend every day. We are looking for other facilities."
"My MIL has been living in her apartment there since they opened. The staff is very caring- and the facilities are just beautiful. It was a difficult choice as it's a bit pricey, but we haven't looked back. Highly recommend."
"Sandia View Assisted Living is a great place! Their staff really cares about your loved ones and the homes are just beautiful!"
