I was looking for a place with a nice vibe and more upscale cuisine than average as I wanted to place to treat myself dining alone. I didn't think Los Alamos had very much to offer in that regard so I found myself at Blue Window. The ambience was exactly what I had hoped for. It was vibrant and simultaneously casual and sophisticated. I felt comfortable at my table and I thought the actual blue window decor was whimsical and well done. The lighting was just right and I would think this is a nice place to go out for a special occasion as well as a nice lunch by yourself.I was there for the dinner menu and decided to try the Play on Beef Wellington appetizer and see how I felt after that. I was not rushed to order any entrees and was able to hang out with my unsweetened iced tea as I decided whether or not I would need any more food. The app was pretty tasty. They were small-ish and I can't imagine having to share this with anyone. I ate them all! I was still hungry though, and felt I'd had enough red meat, so I ordered the Mediterranean Seafood Pasta. The scallops were huge and cooked perfectly as well as the shrimp. Delicious. The sauce on the pasta was pretty tasty, with a tanginess lent no doubt from the capers, however after some time I started to tire of the sauce's rich flavor and started to feel a little rough. Perhaps it's simply just my constitution that day, but while the seafood was perfect, the sauce ended up being a little too overwhelming in the end. For dessert, they had a little menu on the table with the options. I decided I couldn't resist trying the Rosemary Infused Creme Brûlée, as I'm a sucker for rosemary. It was FANTASTIC. It came with berries, which traditionally is the perfect refreshment for the creamy confection, and the rosemary was prevalent. I was very happy. All in all, I would definitely go back and try more things on the menu if I'm ever in town again. I was eyeing the beet salad, artichoke dip, and bison burger. Some of the entrees initially sounded good at first glance, but they seem to want to include bacon in most of their steak dishes and I wasn't really feeling it.

Delicious food, friendly service, reasonable prices. I still haven't figured out why Los Alamos has such great food, but all the restaurants I've been to here have been stellar. We had wanted to go to Pajaro Brewpub, but it was Monday and they were closed. This place was open, and we were seated after only waiting about 5 minutes.I had the steak frites, which were just what I wanted. The steak was cooked to perfection, anf the frites were really good. Finished it off with a delicious carrot cake.

Blue Window has the best food in Los Alamos. Steak Frites salad is excellent, great steak and greens and the dressing is wonderful. Enchiladas were great. Have not a had anything here that wasn't well prepared and tasty. Very nice servers too. If you are in Los Alamos, go here!

Someone recommended the blue window bistro to me and I can't resist a good recommendation!Off I went, thinking to myself it would be OK but not great. I mean, it's a bistro. Well, I found the atmosphere inviting and the service was on point. Decided to go with the fish and chips along with a green chile cup of soup. After smashing my face with fish (literally) I knew I had made the right choice. If I was a fish, I would die happy knowing I'd be fried and served here. I will be going here again.

It may be a local institution, with portraits of the who's whos of the Manhattan Project lining the hallway. but my lunch of fried calamari and Cuban sandwich I would hardly describe as the bomb. Let's just say I've had better in California and leave it at that. Food aside, my Thursday day trip to Los Alamos from Santa Fe (where I'm attending the opera this week) has been a sobering experience. The Bradley Science Center, the Historic Park, images and statues of Oppenheimer everywhere-- the town is very much still stuck in a time warp of wartime official narrative that the U.S. "reluctantly dropped the bombs in order to hasten the end of WWII". For the NPR expose' on this topic, listen to the August 11 podcast "Looking back at the decision to drop atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki"

The service was swift and friendly. A variety of foods on the menu. I had the grilled chicken croissant with cheese and avocado. Yummy. My friends had traditional mexican dishes with Christmas salsa. This was their first taste of New Mexican foods as they were from Denver. They loved every bit of it. Although the 11am opening had a line of people at the door, everyone was quickly seated. The tables are set as such to provide some privacy but also rearrange for a group easily. Decor was trendy with a feel of the good ole days.

The restaurant had moved so we went to the old address. Gave up and by chance found their new location downtown. We had a very good lunch here. My wife and I ordered the Cobb salad which was delicious. Everything was fresh and the ranch dressing good. My son ordered beef tacos that he enjoyed and my DIL the crab bisque. Our server was very attentive and the restaurant vibe good.

We celebrated our 60th wedding anniversary here. We had the Scallops and the Surf and Turf. We also had the fried calamari appetizer. For desert, I had the creme brulè. My wife had the lemon cake. It was a pricey meal, but well worth it for our special occasion. The price with one draft beer and a margarita was well north of $100.They forgot to record that I requested a window seat when I made the reservation, which was a little annoying, After a bit of angst, we realized that there were seats on the patio. Once we were seated, the service was outstanding. It was a memorable meal as good as anything we could have gotten in Santa Fe for the same price.I have long thought the Blue Window was the best restaurant in Los Alamos, but maybe not up to what we could find in Santa Fe. This meal moved them up a notch in our opinion.

What a delightful find. We were in town briefly and this place is close to the visitors center for Los Alamos. We had our pup with us and sat on the patio while the staff totally loved on our dog. Even better was the food and service. The Gouda dip/chips, and the southwestern rolls, were very tasty. Highly recommend this place!
