Birdland The Hippie Store

Time for an updated review.. Looks like the prior reviews are years old. This is a fun & quirky "hippie" shop. There are plenty of unique products at fair prices. Definitely a terrific place for fun gift ideas. The owner runs the store and is super social. He is a genuinely nice guy who is very helpful. Check'em out.

I'm really shocked that Birdland has so few reviews. Shocked, I tell you. The place is older than Nob Hill dirt, and it's a survivor. All the haters who thought this hippie-dom would someday tank, guess what? Sip on this bong water, baby. Like a Hendrix guitar lick and the Lava Lamp, Birdland is simply timeless. Hold tight, I've got the munchies...And I'm back. So, what was I writing about, again? OH, right, right. So Birdland. First off, do you know the dryer sheet trick? You take a cardboard toilet paper roll and stuff it with a few dryer sheets. If dad or mom is around, just blow your bong rip through the tube, and bam: linen smoke. Seriously. And while you're at it, you should light some incense that you bought from Birdland.And, dude, you need to cover your windows, man. Get some Zeppelin wall covers, those fabric kind, and just pin 'em up all over the place. They're glow-in-the-dark, dude. And they've got some seriously wicked glass pipes, too. And oh yeah, last time I was there I saw some trippy body piercings. Oh, and they just re-painted that VW bus in the front: it's all psychedelic. Come to think of it, dude, let's just go there already. I'm so jonesing to see what's new.Hold up, hold up. I need to drop some Visine, bro.

A crazy ass -clothing, art, and adult paraphernalia, co- op. Best selection of masks in Albuquerque. Bring cash, or otherwise pay a dollar or two fee to have your card run. It seems this would best be down in reverse, have the price reflect the cost of using a card to pay, and offer a discount if you pay cash. Everyone loves a discount, nobody usually wants to pay extra hidden fee's. They have both goods they bring in and consignment from artists. There is a bong room, with a electric gate. I don't know if it is really electrified, but the sign says it is, and I don't like a jolt, so I have not investigated further. Weather your looking for some new threads to wear to burning man, a disguise, or a handblown effect, then come on in a wonder about. I am kind of surprised they don't have belly dance numbers, as it goes with the tribal feel they have going on already.

I love to support local businesses, and Birdland is definitely one of my go to spots when I need costumes and accessories for adult parties. They other items there for the hard to find gift people in your life. I love the smell of their incense when you walk in. I found the white gloves my wife was looking for for our Diner en Blanc outing. The price was the same as it was online on AmAzon, Party City and Spirit, cannot beat keeping your money local and instant satisfaction of having your item in stock. I will keep coming back, plus the owner is a great community advocate. Best of luck and many more years of business in Nob Hill.

Birdland has the best glass in Albuquerque! They have all the big names and often some hidden gems. I like to spend my money there because I know that the owner Jay supports American and local glassblowers (he will let you know that). I tell everyone to check out the glass pieces at Birdland because they are seriously the coolest!

I went in there today just passing through. We spoke to one guy (presumably the owner) who was very nice. The other guy with the long hair had an attitude. I apparently accidentally said the the word 'bong' because that's exactly what it is they sell in there. He looked at me and said "get out!" I said "excuse me?" again he repeated, "get out!" I was thinking this dude had some major problems. You seriously need to get some better employees in this place, because they don't even know what up. He said "these are water pipes" well OK. Go on with your water pipe bongs Mr. too cool for anyone's own good. Maybe he was just too busy trying to impress the underage girls in there.

I have shopped here a few times while visiting from out of state. This shop was even one of our "Let stop here, while visiting, kinda places. The last few times the owner was fine. Unfortunately, do to the owners rudeness and pushed opinions on customers, I will never shop here again. Yes, you have some cool stuff and support local art. I commend you on the Newspaper bags and the like; But, this last time, on Black Friday, the owner was completely and over the top rude. He went on a rant about smoking. Do to the smokers outside... And you Sir, tie die wearing but uptight, are the owner of a fun loving, hippie store with things to smoke out of? what? That day you really needed to smoke something, out of some of the pipes you sell.. I would like to suggest that before you, so rudely complain about the smokers outside your shop, as if they are smoking, just to piss you off, to your employee ( who was very nice and totally had the peace loving vibe) and also rant to other costumers in the store; about how disgusting they are, over dramatically ; you should make sure that the person that WAS going to buy from your store, isn't behind you and related to the people our talking smack about........ It's okay to have personal opinions. By all means, it's your store; but, if you want business, from smokers with money, you should learn to deal with all types of people. Smokers are nice people and need love too. If you were nice, they would have gladly moved, if even asked nicely, which they weren't. Instead of looking at them with anger and saying very loudly "That REALLY stinks!" That's not cool man. Your store and your attitude don't match themes and running a store about peace, love and understanding for all, which you clearly don't practice because you came off as a judgemental, not so hippie owner. Maybe you should change it to a E-Cig store, since this issue seems to speak so loudly to your soul and is so deep rooted with your spirit.

My family and I had a terrible experience at Birdland. The merchandise is interesting and unusual, with colorful items like masks, hats, tie-dye, and other costume-type items. However, the owner, Jay Steinberg, was extremely unprofessional and rude to my daughter and to me. Although I constantly advocate for shopping local and supporting local businesses, the bullying and threatening behavior of this local business man toward my 11-year old child was completely unacceptable, reprehensible, and inexcusable. I assure you that she was well-behaved and was doing nothing other than try on sunglasses with her friend while I stood next to them. She had a $20 gift certificate to the store and was intending on using it to buy a pair of sunglasses. The owner verbally attacked my young daughter and her friend because, as they tried on sunglasses, he felt that they were not putting them back on the rack neatly enough. He proceeded to scream at her from across a busy store. He then moved over to where she and her friend were, and did his best to try and humiliate her, berating her for some time, practically spitting in her face, telling her she was a "messy person" and that he was going to come over to her house and throw her toys out of her window. Needless to say, having a middle-aged man scream at her upset her enormously and made her cry. We will never return and will tell everyone we know about our horrible experience there. I was grateful for the other people who left the store in solidarity with my daughter and our family.
