There's something about a small, intimate space devoted to live theater.Aux Dog Theatre has this in spades as they offer up great productions with some of the best actors in the region in a no-nonsense, straight-forward venue that doesn't distract from the actors. The reception area is large and welcoming and perfect for before and after show gatherings. They offer up their wall space here to local artists. Concessions has a nice mix of treats. The overall space is clean and welcoming.I especially love when they produce avant-garde and off-beat, cerebral plays as opposed to relying on the tried-and-true automatic crowd pleasers. Even when they do fall back onto the popular shows, you know it will be excellent. This is a venue and troupe to support.

I came here to watch a play here and wasn't to satisfied with their service, and the stage setup. They have this really bright exit sign that faces the audience that is really distracting. I realize why it is there but I wonder if they could move it a little bit lower so it's not right on the same plane as the stage. Also, there is only one way in and out of the seating, so if there isn't an intermission during the production, you are viewing be sure to go before it starts. Or else you will interrupt the show and possibly smash your neighbors feet. Not sure if I am going to come back here, I guess it depends on the performance.

Shakespeare's "Measure for Measure" showcased some really fine local talent. The theater is well located and cute; stage and lighting versatile. The worst thing about the theater is the seats. They seem to be old movie theater seats and as such are angled to sit the audience up which does not work in a live theater situation. They are also extremely narrow, worn out seats. Aux Dog would do well to get rid of the current seats and just use comfortable chairs.

Reviews of performance venues can be a little nonspecific, since the experience of the space itself is heavily influenced by the performance. Being a thespian veteran of this town, I can honestly state that even great performances have their bad nights, and crowds can occasionally kill a good show. So there's my caveat. I've seen a few terrific performances in this space and I'm confident in stating that Aux Dog is putting together some of the most solid work in the city.I've seen plays in every space imaginable: outdoor, round, Broadway and Off, in classrooms and boardrooms and impromptu shows at parties and bars. Aux Dog is the kind of place I truly love most: intimate, the actors could breathe on you, every sound and emotion and movement makes a difference. This company is consistently putting out material which scratches my theatrical itch, and I'm so glad they're doing the work in Nob Hill, which doesn't have another space like it.The space itself (oh yeah, that's why I'm writing this) is simple, comfortable. The seat banks are in good condition and not too close. The reception area showcases great local art and supports coffee talk. Management seems solid. One tip: get your tickets early. ABQ can be lame in this respect. Very few people buy early, but the day of show we often sell out. Be on the safe side.

We came for the murder in morocco dinner pay. It was really intimate in the lobby part of the theatre.. I think there is a bigger theatre inside but we didn't see it. We all had a good seat to view the tiny stage in the front..and they started us off w some mint tea and some spanikopita and cucumber appetizers while a couple of belly dancers set the mood. The play was not really a compelling mystery but toward the end everyone guesses who the guilty person is and there is a plot twist. I liked the dinner being tied into the play and the food was alright. Not tons of food but tasty and themed with the play. I feel these sorts of plays/ small theatres aren't for everyone. It's more lighthearted and not taken super seriously... Not tony award worthy acting I guess i should say..but more to have fun. It was nice to do something different especially with the "dinner theatre" concept. I suggest checking it out If they do something like this again.

Last night was my first visit to Aux Dog and I was really impressed with this little theater. Comfortable seats decently spaced, plenty of seating and standing areas in the lobby, lots of promo for upcoming productions both at Aux Dog and elsewhere in town (nice way to support other productions). Easy street parking.

I gotta love a theater right in my neighborhood to transport me to another place. I have seen a few shows here and each time the stage is completely transformed. Most recently saw Hedda Gabler and I was quite impressed with the caliber of performances I saw. I also saw the Dolls perform in this space and they were fabulous as always!! Of course I teach acting and am quite the critic when it comes to acting and sets are my pet peeve but this theater is great. I like that it is somewhat intimate so that even a small audience fills up the space...Vicki, you are doing a great job, keep it up!!

A very cute little bitty theatre just at the start of Nob Hill, Aux Dog has provided us with a couple of enjoyable evenings. The lobby is sizable with loungey chairs and couches and they sometimes do some little pre-show entertainment there. The theatre itself is very small, maybe 100 seats, the closest of which are practically on the stage itself. (Given the show, sitting right down front may mean you'll actually be a part of the performance.) They put on smaller productions (often stuff even I, as a theatre major, am unfamiliar with). Prices run from $15-$30, depending on the show; they do a lot of their own philanthropy - that coupled with the fact that there literally isn't a bad seat in the place makes the cost reasonable in my mind.

Very unique and intimate theater. Fair pricing and very affordable if you are young. Parking is available right in front. Clean restrooms. Light refreshments available. Adequate seating. A touch chilly so bring a light sweater if you get cold easily. The set was very well done and the acting was fabulous! Will definitely return!
