Apna Bazaar is a Desi Indian Grocery Store- they have affordable spices, different types of ghee (clarified butter), alternative flours like besan flour (from chickpeas) & atta flour (semolina), many kinds of dal, rice, spice mixes for specific dishes like fish biryani or chana masala, various Indian sweets prepared fresh (think ladoos, burfi..), savory snacks, instant tea, loose leaf tea, tea in bags, biscuits and cookies for tea, some coffee products, fresh vegetables and fruits, a frozen section, AND at the very back, a meat counter. I am not entirely sure what meats they have because I don't usually cook meat, although listed on the grocery store website are beef, goat and chicken. At the checkout they also sometimes have samosas and a little chai dispenser that is not house made (and it is just plain chai, as in tea, not masala chai). I would not recommend the chai. It is really hot and not very strong. Also at 1.25, not very affordable when compared to what you could make at home. I would however, strongly recommend the samosas. They do not offer any chutneys to go with, just the samosa. They are about 1.70 a piece. A lovely snack, warm and expertly spiced. For clarity this samosa is a fried dough pocket with soft mashed potatoes and bright peas. And this might be controversial, or I could have just been too hungry from running errands on the day I had one, but these samosas are so good you might not even miss the chutney. All in all, this is a definite gem of a grocery store. I love to come here for good prices on spices, flour, rice, legumes and, on the occasional very long errand running day, a very delicious samosa.

Very dishonest business. On almost every occasion that we have shopped here, the prices that are marked and that we are charged don't match. And a lot of items on the shelf are expired. Will not return here. Beware, they will scam you.

You can find all the spices and ingredients you'll need to prepare your favorite Indian dishes at Apna Bazaar. The staff kindly offered to help me find what I needed. I kindly declined because I love cruising the aisles to see what they have in stock and I am always looking for something new -- and along the way I usually find everything I need. Unfortunately a couple of items were sold out. But I'll be back if I need anything else while I'm staying in Albuquerque. And hopefully the items will be back on the shelves by then.

Apna Bazaar isn't like other Stores in the city of Albuquerque that overcharge you for spices and goods from other countries. In reality, it's a budget-friendly place with helpful staff, and I highly recommend the Samosas, possibly the best in New Mexico!
