I had a warranty from ford that covered my truck ( I didn't know ). The mechanic said they "called" ford and asked if my truck was covered and told me they said no I have to pay full price. So they were going to charge me $4k of work. I called ford a day before my appointment and asked myself, ford told me I'm covered 100% under warranty. If I didn't call ford myself I would've been out that money.

Watch out if you take your vehicle to American Tire and Service on Arrowhead Ridge Drive in Rio Rancho. See images - we took our Mitsubishi 2012 Outlander in to be looked at to see why it has a rough, low idle drop at stops. They wanted to do dealer suggested maintenance for 1k. On top of this they claimed to find a tear in the air cleaner to throttle body duct. It looked cut, not natural. They charged us over $400 to replace it which took less than 15 minutes as my wife and son waited. Come to find out that the air cleaner to throttle body duct part replaced can be bought online for under $20. They charged us over $200 for it! On top of this they charged a "disposal fee" as you see on the receipt. They put the replaced part in a box in our car - they disposed of nothing. And how about that "credit card convenience fee" they charged?... Wow.... What they did DID NOT fix the problem with the car - it changed nothing.

Of all days to get a screw in the tire, Friday the 13thSo last night we found that our truck picked up a souvenir from the road, a monster screw. I called down to American Tire this morning. I spoke with Rich via phone and discussed tire options. Rich initiated additional information sharing by sending emails with visualization of the tires and specs to aid in deciding!Rich was very helpful in finding the tires best suited for our needs and to boot, they were in stock. When I arrived the tires were already pulled and they were already. While the tires were being changed out, we were also advised about needing an alignment. This correction was an easy remedy while at the shop.

Went in for new tires and a new tie rod end. Got new tires okay but the tie rod end was still in place, but the tie rod arm was replaced. There was nothing wrong with the rod, but the end had no boot and cannot be greased. Quite obvious to a real mechanic. That was last year. Went in this week with a nail in the tire and asked for a tire rotation. The tire was fixed but no rotation. I know because I looked closely before going in. Lots of brake dust on both front tires and a brand new valve stem cover on the repaired tire and all still in the same places. Not a big deal but my custom front rim came back with a large deep gouge in it.

I had a fantastic experience here. I was told by another shop to get a wheel alignment and Joey got me in the same day to get it taken care of (best price in Rio by the way). Unfortunately, that didn't fix the issue I was experiencing. Thankfully it wasn't a safety issue so I took the car back a week later and Joey made sure to ride along with me to really figure out what the problem was. I left it with them and a few hours later they had found the problem and fixed it! It's clear that the customer matters to these guys and they aren't just out to charge you for all kinds of extras. Not one bad thing to say about this shop or the guys that work there. We will definitely be back in the future for any car care needs that come up!!

This week I needed a new battery for my car. It requires the ADM type which are very expensive. They got one for me and installed it while I waited (only about 45mins) Well, the next day they called me to say they made a mistake on the price and we're refunding me $75. ! How often does THAT happen! I've been taking my cars there for about 16 years and have always trusted them, but this blew me away! It's a good place for tires and honest service! I spoke to one person on the phone about an oil change and checking my brakes for pad replacement and to make sure that the the rotors didn't need replacing or turning. He asked about the type of oil chutney in the vehicle, year, make, and model and quoted me a very reasonable price for an oil change with a 5W20 synthetic blend. I went in on Saturday and it was a completely different individual that checked in my vehicle. I told him off my conversation andleft my car 15 minutes after they opened. 6.5 hours later i get the call that my car is done. Picked up the vehicle and am charged $40 more than I was quoted. I started to address it but was side tracked by a $450 brake quote and told there are 2 scheduled maintenance items for which he did a quote. A radiator flush and changing the cabin air filter for $350 total. The cabin air filter part was $140 all by itself. I can do that in a couple minutes for the cost of the filter - under $20 - so charging me an hour of labor and crazy pricing on the filter is unethical to me. The radiator flush is similarly price gouging on parts and although it would take longer, not as long as the amount quoted. I called them on the price of the oil change noticing that they did full synthetic despite my phone conversation specifying a blend which is what the dealership, who'd done all previous oil changes, had used. He basically tried to call me a liar starting the manufacturer states only full synthetic but agreed that if i brought the car in Monday they would do it with a blend and refund the $40 difference. I arrive at 7:30 Monday as i had places to be and he immediately stays arguing and backpedaling about redoing and refunding stating he wanted to wait and call the dealership. First, the dealership service starts at 7. They were open with no wait necessary, and i did not have the time to argue and wait around while he would keep trying to pressure me, not honoring his stated and promised resolution to redo and refund. Absolutely unacceptable. I had to leave without them fixing their screw up and honoring their word. I'm livid. I absolutely will NEVER recommend their business or services. I don't patronize businesses i can't trust and that just because I'm female they can try to bs me. Although the initial phone call was good and positive, the rest ruined any possible chance i will ever return or recommend them.

American Tire and Service, is no longer trustworthy. I've used American several times before. They are expensive, but previously reliable and a decent shop. Things have changed for the worse. My most recent visit to American for a simple repair resulted in my car being broken while they had it for a far more expensive repair.More importantly, to me, when asked to have one of their managers call they did.......nothing.I strongly recommend you avoid American until they get new leadership.
