Sorry to leave a review based only on a 15 sec interaction, but that's is far as it got. Stopped in this shop area that houses a coffee shop and a art gallery, it was early so only art gallery open so I went to just ask where a public restroom was in Old Town, at 25ft away the shop keeper was waving me away saying Mask Mask.....It's August 2022, I was 25ft, this is a public business, I really think she is in the wrong line of work.

If I'm shopping for a gift from a local artist, Amapola is certainly on my list in Old Town. Why? Well, we locals certainly know that a great deal of the merchandise near the plaza is anything but local, and quite often, you're looking at goods made on another continent. Amapola is precisely the opposite: a local co-op supporting 30+ artists, everything you see on these walls and on display are the real deal. And the beauty of the gallery is the outstanding scope of material, medium and methodology. Alongside the anticipated paintings and jewelry, you'll find some work around here that both impresses and, well, sometimes confounds; who would think of that? Would that improve the look of my garden, or... ? But this is rare. For the most part, I found myself deeply enjoying this gallery, it's right above a froyo shop, so grab a cold treat and peruse.

I do love an artist co-op. So much art in one place... And this one was no exception. The entire 2nd floor of a largish building...well large for Old Town.My friends got bored with my shopping and wandered downstairs to patronize the frozen yogurt shop. But I was having so much fun. The artists' styles were varied and there was a bunch of work to see. I ended up with a quilted loteria/day of the dead square as a gift, a couple of water colors, and some other small paintings. The staff was lovely and packaged up my purchases well so I wouldn't have any dents or creases when I packed up.

During our September visit to Northern New Mexico, Gayle and I saw the Amopola Gallery, a co-op just off the Old Town Plaza. It's upstairs and consists of several rooms spread over an entire floor of various art media from a number of local artists. For most of it, we walked through quickly as art is often the kind of thing that reaches out and grabs you.And something did, a turquoise pendent designed by Jack Boglioli. I saw it first and suggested that Gayle try it on. She readily agreed and once on, immediate knew that this peace was a match. And when that happens, cost becomes a little less of a factor. I was pleased that she was pleased and gratified that I actually picked out a piece of jewelry that really matched her style.

It's a great place to purchase some Art, Cards and little gifts. At Amapola you can have a chance to meet the artist and they are so nice, if you visit Albuquerque it is definitely a place to stop by.

This is a very interesting gallery. It's located in Old Town, on the second floor of a building right off the plaza, above an ice cream shop. You go upstairs and walk in a full circle around the building, checking out a wide variety of art from all kinds of media: wood, glass, ceramics/pottery, photography, painting, textiles, metals, nature - I'm sure things I have forgotten. It's a co-op for all kinds of artists and all kinds of art. There are some amazingly sophisticated pieces and some fairly simple pieces and everything in between. It's a really nice mixture of all different kinds of art, and all price ranges. it would be a wonderful place to go to find a gift for someone when you had no clue what to get them, because you would have an enormous range of things to choose from. The artists take turns monitoring the shop, so you may not be able to get questions answered about a particular piece at the moment you ask it. However, they are very helpful about contacting each other or leaving information, as it is in their best interest to help each other out. It just might take some patience on your part. It's a great gallery, worth your time. And possibly, your money.
