I typically like to try multiple dishes at a restaurant prior to leaving a review, but this lunch was so good that I decided to review now, knowing I can always update later if need-be. I want to start by acknowledging the front staff. I let them know I was a first-time visitor, and the two employees at the counter began going through some local faves with me, specifically pointing out the Surf and Turf burrito and the Carnitas Taco Plate. I went with the former, red sauce, and a large horchata. I specifically asked for my burrito to have a grilled tortilla. When I sat down to wait for my order, I noticed the ambience was chill and the tables and chairs were tidy and clean. There was a baseball game on TV, and I could see myself eating and a soccer game there in the future. I didn't order one, but they have a fully stocked beer fridge for some adult beverages. When the burrito came out, the tortilla was grilled to perfection, nice and crispy. The steak and shrimp were so good, I completely forgot to take a picture. All in all, this was a five stars lunch, and I will certainly return.

The carnitas burrito was not fresh at all. The meat tasted stale like it was cooked a few days ago, frozen, then thawed and cooked. I picked up my order in the 15 mins they estimated, and my burrito was cold. Not good. I couldn't finish it. Very unsatisfying.

My review is for my breakfast burrito takeout orders.5/5 downtown breakfast burrito: loads of savory sausage full of flavor, scrambled egg and melted cheddar cheese wrapped in a freflour tortilla. The salsas are perfect - red is quite spicy, and the green salsa is moderately spicy with noticeable acidity. 4/5 Al's burrito: egg, cheese, carne asada could use more seasoning, but I appreciate the size and its combination with the red and green salsas

One of the best Mexican restaurants in San Diego. Their big roll tacos are delicious.

I've been here a few times, now, trying different items. Consistently, I've had a THREE STAR experience. The BEST items here are the "chips & salsa" which you only receive if you eat-in. I'm not sure if they give refills on either the chips or the salsa because I've never been offered. I also didn't want to ask for more salsa due to the "attitude" that each person seems to have. The rolled tacos, despite getting chicken or steak, are often overcooked (very hard and dry meat). I wish I could have only eaten the chips and salsa! Lol.The ambiance is pretty clean, though. Finally, the customer service is very flat...whether you leave a tip, or not, I get the feeling thay they want me to "Just order and move." I've felt this way regardless of who took my order.

Albert's is the best taco shop in the area! The food is good, service is friendly and fast. I just wish it was a drive thru, but otherwise our new favorite!

I love this place! They have the best veggie burritos. I get the black beans instead of the refried.

Stay away from the food ! Meat is bad !!Home of the big rolled tacos ! Nope , false advertising.! I was excited to try this place as I assumed the rolled tacos were big . So I was real hungry and decided to order 8 rolled tacos to share with my teenage son. We expected to have unusually big rolled tacos and I paid 23 bucks total . The most I ever paid first rolled tacos. I assumed it was probably worth the price ! It was not worth the money. Normal size rolled tacos . I go my local Mexican restaurant five minutes away and spend 7 bucks for five rolled tacos and they are the exact same size as the "home of the big rolled tacos " . Occasionally I'll order 12 piece rolled tacos and NEVER HAVE I spent 23 bucks form them and they really good size . This place here sucks !! Too much money and I can go somewhere else for the same thing . I dont respect the false advertising. Another thing was the next day I felt sick I laid in bed nauseous and sleep most the day away because my stomach was hurting and I just didn't feel normal. I put two and two together and realized the meat made me sick because that was literally the only thing I ate the whole day !

I have been a loyal client of this location for over 7 years. And Over the weekend I took the family for some breakfast burritos after our kids' soccer match. When they delivered my breakfast burrito I noticed a green streak on the tortilla. At first I thought it was cilantro, but I didn't order a burrito that contained cilantro, after a closer look, we discovered it was green mold. I must note, the moldy side of the burrito was facing up when it was delivered to the table. Which means at least two people handled that burrito and looked at it and still handed out to a customer. I was disgusted, a few seconds later they came back with the rest of the food and at that time I showed the employee the burrito and asked for my money back. She immediately asked " your money back for the whole order? " I replied yes, for everything. She didn't apologize, instead she took it back to kitchen and out loud told the cook what I said, I didn't hear a reply from cook but she came out and gave me my money back. Still no apology no acknowledgment. She proceeded to refund me the pre-tax total only. Luckily I had the receipt texted to me and asked to refund me 100% of my money back, yes including tip. I'm sad to say that we will not return to this location. If they have moldy tortillas god knows what other health hazards could be lurking in the kitchen.

Albert's is one of my favorite taco shops in La Mesa. Every meal I've had here has always been good. It has a welcoming atmosphere with incredible employees. Their service is quick and it's easy to call and put in an order over the phone. The food is very good. I love their unique and creative items they have on their menu. They have specials like the Hot Cheeto burrito, quesadilla wrapped burritos, and my favorite, the carne asada tater tots (granite taters). One of the most important characteristics in my opinion of good taco shop is that they don't skimp! And Albert's does not skimp! All while not sacrificing quality. They also have hands down the best house-made salsa that I have ever had at a taco shop.I highly recommend trying out Alberts if you are in the La Mesa, El Cajon, Lakeside, or Downtown areas!
