Agio Italian Bistro

HOW IS THE AVERAGE STARS FOR THIS 3.4?!?! As soon as I walked into Agio I instantly knew I was about to have a 5 star experience. This bistro is beautifully decorated and up to date. It is small and locally owned with extremely comfortable booths, standard dining seating, a bar area and an outdoor patio. Wherever seated - the view is stunning. The attention to detail in the decor is impossible to miss. I was here for a weekday dinner and by 6pm the place was jam packed (on a Wednesday). I highly recommend making a reservation even if dining in during the week. Service throughout was great. As soon as my friend and I were seated, water and table bread were brought over to us. Our server was the perfect amount of attentive. He was quick to put in drink/food orders and checked in on us a few times throughout the evening. We were in and out within 2 hours and did not feel rushed at all. For drinks I ordered a french martini. It was delicious, light and refreshing. My friend ordered a red blend, which I tried, and it was REALLL good. Their wine selection is top notch and you can't go wrong with whatever you order. For food we started with the antipasto platter. It came with 3 different cheese, artichokes, olives, peppers and a few meat options as well. I wouldn't order this again however I am glad that I tried it. For my entrée I had the pan seared flounder and WOWWWW. The portion was generous and I ate the entire thing. I am the type of person who usually has lots of lefts overs, but this was waaaaay too good to not finish in 1 sitting. The flavors were light and refreshing while the fish was cooked perfectly. I had absolutely no room for dessert...but.... We ordered the GINORMOUS slice of carrot cake. I thought the cake was delicious, a bit dry, but very good!

Great atmosphere, great service, and great food! My wife and I met three other couples for dinner here for our first time ar Agios. Im glad this place was selected!Let's start with the fantastic clam chowder, which I would highly recommend getting for an appetizer! I just wish they offered this in a bowl instead of a cup as It's too damn good to just have a cup! This is the best clam chowder that I've ever experienced! Someone ordered some nice bottles of cabs for dinner, which I downed with my bread and calamari dishes! Every time I set my cup of water down, it was quickly refilled by the fabulous Lucio! The main course was the house made lobster ravioli......this was unbelievable! I had to get another bread basket to soak the delicious leftover sauce from the ravioli. A couple of my buddies got the lamb shanks, which looked like it was cut from the Fred Flintstone era. These were humongous! I had a great cup of coffee to settle my stomach down. Our waitress was fantastic, always attentive and prompt with her appearance. If you are looking for an Italian restaurant in Palantine, stop over at Agios! I don't give 5 stars often, but this place earns and deserves it!

Great service again with Rose, food delicious. Had the chicken parm, Marsala, shrimp de John and scallops. All were delicious and enjoyed by all. Only one concern, turn down the music, stops people from having an enjoyable conversation, not here for the loud music but rather the delicious food and great ambiance.

Everything we had was delicious! Staff was friendly and attentive, our server Jean was amazing! Will definitely be coming back!

We are regulars and yesterday was another special evening, this time we were accompanied by our niece. Most times we opt for seating in the bar, with Patrick, a bartender and host who welcomes us and everyone else with excellent service and details on menu options and spot-on recommendations. During quieter periods he is engaging as a storyteller. We also return for the food! Quality of the fish specials is unsurpassed and consistent. Service is excellent - from all staff members. We love coming here and feel that this is a "home away from home" when we don't feel like shopping or cooking. Carryout is also an easy option.

We've lived in this area for 40 years and never known about Agio before. But we were looking for a new Italian restaurant to go to and found this one. We were 100% pleased with it! We loved the menu, and it's very pretty in there -- tastefully decorated. Our server was awesome! Crissy -- she was a total delight! We ordered the spinach salad, and the shrimp de jonghe appetizer. I got the chicken parmesan, and my husband got the chicken marsala. And he ordered the generous slice of carrot cake to go. Everything was SO delicious, just top notch. I loved my sauvignon blanc,, and he had 2 glasses of Meiomi. Eating at Agio was a wonderful experience! Perfect service, ambiance, and FOOD!! This is going to be one we dine at a LOT!

Definitely would not recommend this restaurant. Ordered a Filet Mignon rare plus for $48.00. received my steak medium. I explained to the Waiter that I wanted it rare plus. He was really rude and insulted when I sent it back. He sent someone else back to the table with a correct steak. He had a bad attitude and just ruined the dinner.

Food was good!! Service was terrible. Server never came back to check on drinks or the table. $2.56 "convenience fee" on the bill. Asked what it was for. Was told "credit card fee". Really?? We paid with a debit card. Still charged us. It is ILLEGAL to charge a merchant fee on a debit card.

I enjoyed a wonderful evening out at Agio's last night. Started with a cocktail made to perfection and dinner was so delicious. I ordered the frute de mare in a red sauce (sooo yummy) and a Caesar salad. I do believe though that the pasta could have been cooked a bit longer; a few weeks ago, I enjoyed the cavetelli pasta dish and that pasta needed more cooking time. All in all, a fantastic place to enjoy on the town.

This place is a must visit neighborhood establishment the food is excellent atmosphere inviting service extremely friendly and most willing to give recommendations regarding food and drink the wine room is impressive with a wide variety of options
