Great little market, very friendly staff. I come in like almost everyday with my pups and they're super kind about them being in there. I've never had any trouble here. I highly recommend coming here for the boar head sandwiches. They're BOMB!!

This place is a hoot and a half. They got it all from beer to giant pickles. I work beside 2nd Ave market but excitedly walk the couple blocks here to grab my lunchtime snacks and beer! What a gem!

Can you rate 5 $'s?Awk because the owner is always hovering at the door, frustrating because their credit card minimum is $10 (TEN DOLLARS!!). Not only did this seem kinda sneaky, its against their merchant agreement! The good: they have Ben & Jerry's (something I haven't seen at Dan's) but if you're looking for anything else make the trek one block West to Dan's grocery. Reasonable prices, nice people.I think this place might be going boycott status for me...

The guys that work here crack me up. There is always a dude at the door ready to tackle anyone attempting any shenanigans. Good place to snag a bottle of water or energy drink, wouldn't buy much else here...

The owner was unbelievably rude an when I tried to sort it out with him, he became belligerent and told me to leave his store. And then, if you can believe this, came outside and took a picture of me with his phone. Huh?

Friday evening I got into what I thought was an Uber but several minutes into the ride I realized I'd been picked up by a stranger when he repeatedly asked me to get in the front seat with him. I told him I wanted to buy some beer on the way home and asked him to make a quick stop at Abyssinia Market. The man inside the market- he appeared to be the owner - was SO incredibly kind when I told him what happened. He told me I could stay as long as I needed. He asked if I wanted to call the police (I declined, although I probably should have). He got me a chair to sit in while I waited for the fake Uber to leave. Several rude customers came and went and he still made time to ensure I was okay. Thank you so much! I'm not sure what I would have done otherwise.

For the last 18 months we have been living a block away from this market. Every weekend my husband and I pick up one six pack of Lagunitas. My preference is to go to the CVS on the corner of 4th and Lenora but my husband always wants to go to the Abyssinia Market to support a small business even though it is much more expensive there. This weekend however, we grabbed our six pack and once we got home and opened 1 could instantly tell something was off. There was no expiration on the bottle just a long serial number, but the beer was definitely bad. Maybe it was left out in the sun or was moved from hot to cold hot to cold. Whatever the cause, we new it was not good anymore, we have been drinking Lagunitas for years so we are aware of how it should taste. We dumped the rest of the bottle down the sink, put it back in the six pack and headed back to the market. We've always been under the impression that you catch more flies with honey than vinegar, so we were really nice. Explained the situation and said we would be happy with any outcome (refund, replacement, or even a replacement of two Lagunitas tall cans since the six pack we were bringing back had one empty bottle). I was surprised by the cashier's reaction. Very defensive, not friendly whatsoever even though we were going out of our way to be super polite and understanding. The owner came out and was a bit more kind than the cashier but still very defensive. We ended up just leaving the spoiled six pack with them at the counter and walked out. We walked the extra block to the CVS and paid $4 less for a non spoiled six pack of Lagunitas. IMHO just go to the cvs when you need alcohol, it will be cheaper, better quality, and you'll receive better customer service. If you are against supporting big companies, then you can take your chances at this market. After 18 months we never had a problem until now, so you may not either. However, we always had to deal with the higher prices and not so friendly staff, plus if they ever sell you an expired or spoiled product, you will be treated with a lot of hostility for letting them know.

Went in with a co worker. We each order a sandwich. No one there except the two guys working. 30+ minutes later our sandwhiches we're ready. No clue why it took so long, it looked like he was working on them for the whole time. Maybe he made a treasure map with the mustard on the underside of the bread, but I didn't look.Otherwise pretty good sandwiches.

Would never return. I turned 21 two days ago and attempted to purchase a few mini bottles for my flight home in the morning. I was told at the register he was not accepting IDs with the month of July? I asked the cashier to clarify what he meant and he could not explain but refused to serve me, being sober and legal I was very confused. If a store is so concerned about IDs highly I recommend any scanning technology to avoid these kind of mistakes.

Update: They raised their prices and aren't really competitive any longer. Too bad. I came in for a deli sandwich and was pleasantly surprised by the price and the taste. The store is clean and the people are friendly.
