My boyfriend happened on one of his walks in the neighboring Normal Heights so we decided to check out their Happy Hour on Thursday. They did not disappoint. They haven't been open long but this may be our new go to place. The ambiance, our hostess, the food and drinks...stellar. Great background music just the right volume that you weren't yelling to be heard always a plusWe had cocktails and delicious appetizers of Honey Yudo Shrimp and Grilled Mahi Tacos...delish!

*Drinks Only ReviewWe visited Abnormal heights right around sunset so the views on the rooftop were really nice! The main draw of this place is definitely the view. It's cool to have this in a less busy part of town (vs Downtown) so that has a unique appeal for people wanting to just hang out and chill with some great views. It seems like most seating areas you could at least get some good views from without having to awkwardly stand up at your table. We were lucky to get a spot on the outer portion with no obstruction of views. One thing that I wasn't a big fan of was the flooring. They use fake grass/turf for the whole space and personally I found it to be tacky. The Clear Colada was really refreshing and my gf enjoyed the Urban Espresso. Next time we would try to come back for Happy Hour for some of their appetizers.

Nice new spot in Normal Heights for drinks and food! Went for drinks about a week after their opening and it was fairly empty right before sunset. The space is cute with high tops and seats around firepits. They have a menu of speciality cocktails, beer, wine, and mocktails with a decent size food menu. They have small bites like skewers and entrees (likely as dinner options). We got the Clear Colada cocktail that was good and the crab avocado terrine which was light and delicious with lots of fresh crab. All the staff we encountered were very friendly. Our only feedback was we wished there were more small plate options. Maybe their concept is different from what I'm imagining but I would totally come back to drink and order a snack but not necessarily want to eat a full meal.

Abnormal Heights is a new bar and lounge on the rooftop of a multipurpose building in the Normal Heights neighborhood. The hostess stand to check in was located around the corner on the sidewalk of Bancroft St. You can then take the stairs or an elevator to the fourth level where the bar is located. The setup can hold almost 100 customers so it's not a tiny space. The view overlooking Adams Ave to the south was terrific as you can see airplanes descending in the distance on their approach to the San Diego airport. The place is currently open from Friday to Sunday starting at 4 pm. Online reservations can be made using the Toast system. QR codes to access the menu were affixed to the tables and countertops. The offerings consisted of three appetizers, six entrees, six cocktails, three mocktails, beer, and wine. I sat at a countertop space on the south edge with Adams Ave below. The following were my selections...* Chicken Delight Skewers - grilled chicken and bell pepper and onion medley skewers with a side of herb aioli* Achiote Ember Pork - citrus marinated pork chop with achiote and chipotle accompanied by polenta, grilled carrots, and baby tomatoes* Dawn Dew (Misty Bloom) - blend of botanicals featuring floral non-alcoholic gin with lemon, lavender, and tonic fizzThere were three skewers in an order. The chicken cubes were portioned a little smaller than I have experienced elsewhere. The meat and vegetables were charred nicely by the kitchen. The bone-in pork chop rested on a bed of polenta. The pork was overcooked a tad as can happen easily with white meat on a grill. The mocktail was plain looking and didn't have any garnishments added. While improvements can be made on the execution of the dishes, the rooftop venue itself was very chill for a neighborhood hangout. There was nothing abnormal about it at all. Kudos to the manager (Josh) for taking extra steps to ensure proper customer service during my visit.

Big shout out to abnormal heights for a great opening day!We had a bit of a hiccup with putting our name in but Shadia (I'm sorry for butchering your name) and the manager Josh did a great job at staying engaged and making sure we had a great time. Shadia (again sorry for butchering your name) was keeping the place alive and making sure everyone was taken care of.I highly recommend the gin Negroni, it was amazing. The vibe of the spot is awesome. There's no better views of normal heights!

Given that this comes off a tiny kitchen area, you'd think it was farm to table with its vibrant and fresh dishes. So tasty and so pretty.
