A-Chau

We get takeout here routinely when we visit San Diego and our favorites are their Vietnamese sandwiches and egg rolls. They have a larger menu compared to other Vietnamese deli shops such as noodles and fried chicken. Egg rolls are slightly pricey at $1.50 but definitely worth the money! They are packed the delicious filling and just so crunchy and crispy. Moist and flavorful inside. Bread is thinly crunchy and soft and flaky. Filling for the sandwiches are always generous and flavorful. They're delicious, what can I say! Pros:-delicious sandwiches with a lot of pate and a lot of butter-yummy egg rolls -quality ingredients -fresh pickled vegetables-larger menu with more options Cons:-cash only Tip: Bring cash! They are cash only

I had to come here to try the eggrolls. I had seen an Instagram video talking about how it's a local favorite for delicious cheap eggrolls. At the current price of $1.50/eggroll I wouldn't say it's "cheap" , they are kinda small but also PACKED with meat/filling.It's CASH ONLY so bring $$. And it's totally a hole in the wall/ mom and pop type place so expect no frills. There are tables to enjoy your food and it is clean! The man at the counter was happy to answer the question I had.They have other food items as well like fried chicken, another eggroll that just has a regular eggroll wrapper va the rice paper wrapper. I would definitely love to come back and try more things. If you buy a whole tray of the eggrolls you get a better deal, but I was by myself so I stuck to just 3. It was delicious but I do wish it came with some sauce. Not sure if the try comes with sauce or not.

Last time here, I got sick. Hadn't been back in years, but my buddy recommended we stop here on the way home for some egg rolls. Fine by me! We went with 12 egg rolls total between us. It was about $18.00 ($1.50 per egg roll pretty much) total. They boxed them up and we ate them right there in the little shop. How were they? Bomb!These egg rolls are the best! Filled with pork filling and some carrots, wrapped in a rice paper roll, fried perfectly. These egg rolls were piping hot and you could tell they were fresh. Tons of people were getting egg rolls to go in massive quantities. I can see why! These things are like crack! So damn good! Besides that early morning visit that got me sick, I have had nothing but great egg rolls from here and will continue to come back (just not in the morning lol).

Whenever we dine at our favorite soup place in this area we always make a stop at this place ACHAU for 2 things, their Eggroll and Banh Mi. Their Eggrolls here are really good and very crispy and the meat inside is so delicious and very well seasoned, I tried all their Banh Mi here too and everything was good so far. The only thing I have not tried here is their desserts , looking forward to try them next time. Parking is not good here , not only its very small , some wont even follow the direction of the parking

CASH ONLY (still)(2 stars)I guess this place is know for their cheap price on trays of fried Vietnamese eggs rolls. I haven't had one of them in a long time but they are popular, hefty, and a lot of people love them. I came here because i thought getting Spring Rolls in Little Saigon was going to be convenient. WELL, more like INconvenient. The tiny parking lot in this plaza was a hotmess. People double parking, moving trucks blocking the exit, people not knowing how to park. It's small and super crammed. I was fortunately to get quick parking. As u walked inside I saw "CASH ONLY" and walked around the plaza asking if there was an ATM anywhere near by. There is NOT. So I got back in my car and drove several blocks to the Arco (on Fairmont & El Cajon) to get cash (didn't use ATM but buy something and then pull cash for $1.50 fee). Then went back to the plaza and deal with the annoying parking fiasco. Upon entry there were many people waiting for their orders or in line about to order. It also is super crammed inside. I was in a mission to be in and out. Grabbed the last pre-prepped Spring Rolls and a Coconut Pie (2 mini pieces). :: FOOD ::BANG XEP DUA (Coconut Pie) - cute two little pies. But they were dry AF. Meh. GOI CUON (Spring Roll) - this was somewhere sound ~$8 dollars and didn't feel it was worth that price for 3 spring rolls. I was too lazy to make my own and coughed up money for average tasting spring rolls. The shrimp in the spring roll were so small. The vegetables weee fine but I think they out eat too much mint STEMS that some bites were very bitter. De-stem the damn mint! Gag. The sauce was super thick but it was good and I liked how after dunking the spring roll it stuck on lime jam. I think I'll make my own or go elsewhere next time. I'm not too crazy about this place like.

I swung by to pick up some eggrolls and some of their goods. I did end up having to go to the bank to get cash since they are a cash only place!Egg rolls - $1.50 ish each, they were a little salty but still overall good. Banh Da Lon - Super yummy as expected! It was around $4 which I think is average price. Service was great and the guy helping us put our things to the side for us when we had to go get cash. I guess it happens often nowadays as he waa quick to offer! Will definitely be back to try out some of their other things like their Banh Mi!

Á Châu is one of the institutions in what is now San Diego's Little Saigon District (aka City Heights) that is known for one product... fried rice paper spring rolls. Back in the day, they were as cheap as $0.50 each. The current price is well over $1 apiece. They are fried in batches and kept warm under a heat lamp, but these addicting snacks sell quickly. Besides the unique use of rice paper, the ratio of filling to wrapper was terrific. They were loaded with minced pork meat and veggies. I have found them to be very popular at picnic/potluck events.Besides their signature item, banh mi sandwiches, bun (rice vermicelli), fried chicken wings, and other miscellaneous goods were sold here. The parking lot had limited spaces that were shared with other businesses in the same small plaza. If you come at the wrong time of the day, then it can be a hassle. There were some tables inside, but they were being used for storage as opposed to on-site dining. Payment is still cash only so bring sufficient bills with you.

We stopped by this spot for a quick eat and it didn't disappoint. They have these deliciously crispy and salted fried egg rolls for only a $1.50 a piece, along with banh mis and other Vietnamese dishes. This place is cash only though!

I NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS THOUGHT ID HAD TO UPDATE MY REVIEW HERE-- just know everything I'm about to write was written with a sad, heartbroken, and hungry conscience . I'm going to start off by saying I am not bashing on this business at all-- think of it as constructive criticism (: For years we supported A Chau and sent them so much business . Anytime someone would ask me where to get a banh mi or Eggrolls in SD-- id always send them here . The special banh mi was our go-to . Always jammed packed with meats, veggies, and LOVE . I'd only eat half because it was soo plentiful and filled me up-- and I'd always save the other half for later . The eggrolls were always fresh, crispy, and flavorful . Unfortunately, the last three visits were underwhelming . The first time this happened-- I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt ....but underwhelming for the past THREE VISITS is just unacceptable. Shame on me for giving them that many chances .Customer service was fine-- today I was the only one there at 10am Monday morning; I crossed my fingers hopping the last two sad sandwiches was because it was too busy, but that just wasn't the excuse .The special sandwich the last three times were really sad . I can't even go into detail without crying lol . I left a photo for comparison to my last review from a year ago . This latest one especially looked malnourished, unhappy, and didn't even have jalapeños (I'm sobbing) . Let's just say I ate the entire banh mi today and I was still starvingggg-- wait, WHAT ?The latest eggrolls from them were okay . I just feel like they went from MAGICAL TO MEDIOCRE . Don't get me wrong, the filling was still fire-- but not as FLAME as they used to be . You should go read my old review if you're here lol . Overall, it's an unfortunate affair . I completely understand the price increase--like if you're going to raise your prices, keep your quality the same . (I mean a small Starbucks is $10 now-- but it still tastes and looks the same !). I do love how A Chau updated their menu to an electronic screen now-- good for you ! I used to dream about A Chau banh mi and eggrolls and crave them on the daily-- this won't be the case moving forward . I honestly feel like I'm breaking up with the love of my life right now-- for those of you who know me in real life.. you know lololol

This is CASH ONLY! Great prices for what they give you. Food comes out quick. I ordered the Cha Lua (Vietnamese Meat Loaf) and Pate Sandwich. They give you massive amounts of Cha lua I was so shocked at how thickly cut it was. I'm so happy! Great smear of pate as well. The thickness of the jalapeño surprised me. The dau chua was perfectly pickled and so delicious. The cilantro leaves were big as well and tasted good with the sandwich. Bread is crunchy but not painful, if you know what I mean. Next time (personal preference) I'll ask for no maggi (too salty), no onion, and no jalapeño. They have seating here to eat (limited). And they have xoi here (sticky rice). And egg-rolls, , chicken, drinks, che, and more! I'll come back for sure for more sandwiches. I highly recommend this place!
