The 50th st Maket is back! After a long awaited (well, by me anyway) hiatus, they reopened last week under "new management." Everything looks pretty much the same, thank god. I need a market in my neighborhood that is not corporate. (Other choices are Shell, QFC, and 7-11.) Sure, it's really just a market and some things are a little more expensive than the grocery store. BUT, I'm supporting local business, the new employees/owners are nice and friendly (I got free gum!), and it's 2 blocks from my house. When I need emergency beer, wine, or ice cream, this is the spot. They have an impressive selection of micros and wine for a small market also.

I have never been here and after the experience a person in my Van-pool had I never will. We got a new person in the van-pool who rode his bike locked it up to the bike lock in front of the Market and crossed the street to the van pickup. He had gotten permission from someone in the store and had done it a half dozen times. Today however someone came running out with a broom saying "No" "No" Indicating that he couldn't leave his bike there during the day. Seriously what harm can come from parking your bike for a few hours a day? Is another biker going to come and not go to the store because the rack is full? This is plan unfriendly and not the way to win my business.

This place is super cute. It's a great local option in the neighborhood, and has the basic necessities. Now that the summer is coming up I am really excited to explore the craft beers here before spending some time outside!

The Korean couple who now run the store are really sweet. I love going in there. They randomly give out free samples. When they first opened, my roommate and I came in looking for a sparkling water. The lady came over and asked if they were missing something. She wrote in down and a week later, sparkling water appeared. Amazing. I think their pricing is reasonable for convenience stores (and some things that are equivalent to grocery store prices, which I appreciate). I love that they stock things like baking supplies, lemons, limes, onions, butter, Mexican coke, Choco pies (Korean moon pies), etc...Also, they're now serving sandwiches, and teriyaki (3.99 which is a pretty good deal). They sometimes have bulgolgi and apparently they will be stocking kimchi soon. Yum.

I've lived near this market my entire life life and I can honestly say that I would not darken the doors of this store again. The "new" management as far as I am concerned is the as the same as the old. Not honest. I tested them out by first calling to confirm the cost of a one gallon of milk - $2.09. I then sent my son down to the store with $2.50. He immediately came back from the store with a 1/2 gallon of milk.... could there have been a misunderstanding.... In my opinion I don't think so.
